As expected, Romania and Slovakia played without winners in their matchup, but those who watched that match can testify that both units battled as hard as possible and that there wasn’t any fixing as some predicted.

The Romanians earned the knockout stage with a massive win over Ukraine in the opener, 3-0. The loss to Belgium, 2-0, was painless in the end because they and the Slovakians held everything in their hands.

Romania had luck in the EURO; we need to admit that. The way they beat Ukraine was fortunate. Two shots outside the box pretty much decided this event, with Romania gaining a lead and killing Ukraine’s morale. We can’t say they outplayed Mudryk and the boys because we haven’t seen them dictating the pace or controlling the situation.

Netherlands

It seems that Oranje underestimated Austria slightly and took an ultra-offensive approach against them, believing they had more firepower than Rangnick’s crew. That, plus an early own goal by Malen, took this game in a completely different direction than Ronald Koeman expected.

The Netherlands had an initiative, and they pressured the rivals most of the time, but in the end, Austria was more effective, converting their chances. Each time the Netherlands got some swing, it was immediately disrupted by an Austrian’s response.

Seven of their last eight games saw three or more goals, and that’s a constant in the matches the Netherlands play. After all, Oranje’s style of play has been recognizable for decades.
