Saul Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin Prediction Preview

Saul Canelo Alvarez

The Mexican superstar, and for many the most profitable face in boxing is coming off a loss, against Dimitry Bivol. It was the bout for the WBA (super) light heavyweight belt, which occurred at the same place where like this one. It was a unanimous decision win for the Russian, and even though Canelo showed flashes of his extraordinary talent, it appears that the rival was simply too big of a challenge for him. The difference in size was something even Canelo couldn’t cover up.

The last time Alvarez didn’t win was in 2017, in a fight against Golovkin, their first, which concluded with a draw. Since then, Canelo won eight in a row before falling to Bivol.

He was dominating the middleweight division, with the most recent title defense coming against Caleb Plant, whom he demolished in 11 rounds, displaying all-around attack and a very versatile arsenal of hits. We don’t need to tell you about the power this guy has, which is, along with his fast reaction and reflexes, the top weapon for Saul.

Gennady Golovkin

Since losing the title to Canelo, Golovkin wasn’t in the ring often. Yet he won in all of his four appearances and, along the way, earned the IBF and IBO middleweight title, with the WBA (super) middleweight belt. In those four wins, we saw three stoppages and only one fight going to the distance, which was against Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

The most recent clash he had was in April this year, when he KOd Ryota Murata via TKO in the ninth round, winning the super middleweight title. Triple G was out throughout 2021, but that didn’t leave any impact on his body and the quality of boxing. Furthermore, he looks even more powerful.

The reason for that might be his radical changes in 2019, when he introduced nutrition and strength trainers to his staff. Up until then, Golovkin didn’t care about these two areas, but even so, he was the most dominant fighter in the division. Body shots, iron chin, and relentless approach are the main strengths of the Kazakh fighter.

Saul Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin Prediction Head to Head

The first battle was a draw, but we need to mention that one of the scoring judges was ridiculed for his scoring, which was in Canelo’s favor. For many, that was one of the biggest rip-offs of all time.

The second saw Canelo winning via majority decision, but even that wasn’t without controversies, as many believe that Alvarez got the win because of his marketing appearance.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Prediction

We believe that Golovkin’s overall boxing is at a better level than four years ago when these two met for the last time. As said, he made some pretty big changes in his life, and various analysts are suggesting that this guy is on another level. Meanwhile, Canelo is fantastic as well, there is no doubt about it, but we would still go with the Kazakh fighter to win this event.

Our verdict: Golovkin wins
