The Czech Republic and England are tied atop of Group D at EURO 2020, but they are still not safe when it comes to advancing to the tournament’s next stage. England left a disappointing impression in the opening two matches, even though they stayed unbeaten. We’ve expected to see more from one of the top candidates for the title. On the other hand, the Czech Republic and its striker Patrik Schick surprised everyone, delivering some excellent performances. These two sides will decide the winner of this assembly, and we should see a good match at Wembley on Tuesday.
We really didn’t expect to see the Czech’s in such a mood. They are arguably the most pleasant surprise at the EURO after the first two games, and as mentioned before, a big reason for that is Schick.
Leverkusen’s striker netted three times, and shares the No.1 position on the goalscoring list with Cristiano Ronaldo, but unlike Portugal, his team didn’t lose. After beating Scotland 2-0 in the opening match, Schick and the boys took one point against Croatia in the second round.
They had a 1-0 lead achieved during the first halftime, but a very slow start of the second part of the game possibly cost them the victory. The Czechs tried to come back and respond, but as time went by, both sides became more cautious, focusing on keeping that one point in their pockets rather than going after all three.
From what we saw in England’s performance against Scotland, Gareth Southgate’s side isn’t among the top 8 teams in the EURO 2020, let alone a title contender. This might be a harsh statement, but indeed, the Three Lions need to play much better in order to reach London and the semis.
A goalless draw against Scotland was the fourth match in which England didn’t allow a single goal, but their game upfront can’t be described other than terrible. Harry Kane was invisible, Phil Phoden tried but without success, while Raheem Sterling looked like an amateur in certain situations.
There is no need to say that Southgate needs to find a playmaker for this team, someone like Dele Alli used to be. Unless he comes up with some solution, England won’t win the title.
Czech Republic: Vaclik; Coufal, Kalas, Celustka, Boril; Soucek, Kral; Masopust, Darida, Jankto; Schick
England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Mings, Shaw; Phillips, Rice, Mount; Sterling, Kane, Foden
These two nations played together in the EURO 2020 qualifiers. England smashed the Czechs in the first game at Wembley, 5-0, while the other match in Prague saw the hosts’ 2-1 victory.
England is a massive favorite but from what we saw in the recent few games, betting on their win won’t be that good of an idea. Instead, we are going to propose under 2.5 goals for this match, because that is something characteristic for these two teams recently.
