Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Liverpool vs. Southampton at English Premier League
The Reds meet Southampton in the last EPL round before the start of the UEFA Champions League. Jurgen Klopp and his boys don’t have any other option but to win in this one, that is, if they want to preserve their minimal chances of winning the EPL trophy. The Saints are first under the red line and are in desperate need of points as well. Liverpool’s shaky form gives them some hope that they could get back to St. Mary’s with at least one point from this one.
Liverpool
We started to catch the pattern in Liverpool’s performances. They lose to the weaker teams and beat the tougher ones. Really, that’s the case with the Reds, who play well when there is a motive, and apparently, Klopp’s unit wants the big matches, not the average ones.
Beating Man City, Tottenham, Ajax, and Napoli while losing to Nottingham Forest and Leeds can only be explained by the fact that the Reds don’t have a motive. Liverpool has four wins and one loss at home in the past five games.
In all the victories, this unit kept its net intact. That’s why we always like to say that the defense is the key to L’Pool’s success, and if the back line plays well, everything will be OK.
Southampton
The Saints aren’t in a good position. The switch in ownership promised a lot for this unit, and the fans hoped to see Southampton attacking the upper part of the standings, yet for the moment, this unit is fighting to stay in the league.
Only two wins in the recent ten events are a clear sign of struggle, and from what we see when analyzing the stats, the offense can’t find a proper rhythm. They failed to score in four events throughout that stretch and didn’t have a performance with multiple hits over the last nine contests.
Southampton lost four of its previous five away games, not scoring in either of them, and the only win during that period was in Bournemouth, 0-1.
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Firmino, Nunez
Southampton: Bazunu; Lyanco, Salisu, Caleta-Car; Elyounoussi, Ward-Prowse, S. Armstrong, Diallo, Perraud; Aribo, Adams
The Reds won both meetings last year. In the first one, they were better than the Saints at home, 4-0, and in the second meeting, the Reds posted a 1-2 victory at St. Marry’s.
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to pick Liverpool here. This might be the most obvious pick of the entire round, and we, too, are going to suggest going with the Reds’ win. The odds aren’t too high, but for those who want to increase them, take Liverpool covering a 1.5-goal spread.
Our verdict: Liverpool
