Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Chelsea vs. Manchester City for EPL
The big derby between Chelsea and Manchester City closes round 19 of the English Premier League. These two units hadn’t been very persuasive before this event, as both failed to win in their respective events. Chelsea is in the middle of the standings, and it appears they won’t have the power to reach one of the top four places and the Champions League ticket for the next season. The Citizens are trying to keep pace with Arsenal, who sits first and has seven points more than the reigning champs.
Chelsea
The Blues have one win in the past seven English Premier League games, which was right after the World Cup pause, once they defeated Bournemouth at home, 2-0. Following that one, we saw Graham Potter’s crew playing just 1-1 in Nottingham.
Their game is without any creativity, with lots of glitches, especially in the back line, which was supposed to be one of the best in the league. Let us remember that Chelsea spent a record fee on defenders in the previous transfer window, with several massive signings.
Still, one clean sheet in the past nine competitive events across all the competitions is unacceptable, but truth be told, the offense isn’t much better, often struggling to score. Chelsea netted two or more goals in just two of the past ten events.
Manchester City
The Citizens failed to beat Everton a couple of days ago, playing 1-1 at home against the Toffees, who are one mediocre team. This caused Arsenal to increase their edge over the champs from five to seven points, which is a serious advantage.
Due to this, the Citizens need to step up and win here, but also because of morale. Nobody expected to see them wasting two points against Everton, so a win here would erase that.
Man City played its latest game on the road against Leeds United, 1-3, and that was the first one after four in which we saw three or more goals. Also, it was the first following seven with both teams netting.
Chelsea: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, Cucurella; Gallagher, Jorginho, Mount; Sterling, Havertz, Pulisic
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Cancelo; De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo Silva; Mahrez, Haaland, Foden
Manchester City has three losses in a row against Chelsea. Two were in the Premiership last year, both 1-0, and one in the Carabao Cup this season, once the Citizens easily dispatched the Blues at the Etihad, 2-0.
The Citizens are ahead of a challenging task, but we feel that Guardiola’s crew has what it takes to win here. Chelsea is in problems, especially in the back line, and on the other side, they need to attack in front of their own crowd. That will open up space for Haaland and De Bruyne, who should deliver.
Our verdict: Manchester City wins
