Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Bayern Munich vs. Manchester City at Club Friendlies
The two European powerhouses clash in Japan on their preseason world tour. Manchester City eliminated Bayern on its way toward the UEFA Champions League title earlier this season, and that’s something the unit from Bavaria remembers pretty well. The Citizens dismantled the German titan, inflicting them one of the nastiest losses they had in the past several years. We didn’t see too many changes in the lineup on either side, and it is expected for both units to enter this event with 100% of their power.
Bayern Munich
The last season was a disaster for the Bavarian team, but they managed to take the Bundesliga title and continue their domination on the domestic level even though they didn’t deserve that. But everything else has been terrible for one of the biggest teams in the world.
The defense has been problematic and shaky, which is why Bayern bought Napoli’s center-back Min-jae Kim. Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro are brought from the domestic rivals RB and Dortmund.
Thomas Tuchel will be under big pressure because his stint in Munich didn’t start well, and until the season ended, he failed to make adjustments and improve Bayern’s performance. The reason for that lies in the fact that Tuchel isn’t as offensive-minded and aggressive as his predecessors who built a team for such football.
Manchester City
Guardiola and the boys won the Treble last year but aren’t satisfied yet. This team has a lot to give, and after winning the Champions League, the Citizens are finally without any pressure and can play their football relaxed.
Of course, there is a void that needs to be filled in created after Ilkay Gundogan departed, and that will be a challenge for Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard loves to evolve his game, so let’s see how he does that now.
City landed Mateo Kovacic, the Croatian midfielder, who could be the solution in the midfield, but that’s up to Guardiola. One thing is sure, there won’t be too many changes in City’s philosophy, and they will continue to be ultra-offensive and relentless.
Bayern Munich: Sommer; Pavard, Upamecano, Kim, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka; Sane, Musiala, Coman; Choupo-Moting
Manchester City: Ederson; Akanji, Dias, Ake; Stones, Rodri; Silva, Kovacic, De Bruyne, Grealish; Haaland
The two units met in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals last season, and City triumphed 4-1 on aggregate, winning 3-0 at home and then playing 1-1 on the road.
Bayern will have some motive to beat the Citizens, but we are pretty sure that Tuchel’s team doesn’t have the quality to triumph. They haven’t won against Man City since 2018, and that trend will continue because the Bavarians simply don’t have enough quality to compete with Guardiola’s gang.
Our verdict: Manchester City wins
