Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Manchester City vs. Atletico Madrid at Club Friendlies
The Citizens continue their Asian tour against Atletico Madrid in South Korea. Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone are up against one another for one more time, bringing the Korean fans a European atmosphere into their own house. City had a tough challenge before this event against Bayern, while Atletico only started the preseason.
Manchester City
The main task for Guardiola during this preseason is to adjust the team to play without Ilkay Gundogan, who left for Barcelona. The German midfielder was a vital player in the midfield along with Kevin De Bruyne, and City now has to move without him.
Mateo Kovacic is projected to fill that gap, and the Croatian has played more or less well so far. Still, there will be some changes in the assignments of all the other players in the midfield and maybe even a modification of the current system.
Though, overall, the Citizens will continue to play the same. With Erling Haaland, we can’t expect them to lower the efficiency, especially with all the other forwards behind, like Grealish or Foden.
Atletico Madrid
The Mattress Makers had a solid season, which could have been better. Simeone’s crew caught positive vibes in the second half, making some pretty good result streaks during which they posted excellent performances.
Just a few noticed that Simeon completely rejuvenated Atletico’s team. There have been plenty of new faces signed in the past two years, and this team has a bright future, no doubt about it.
Unlike before, we’ve seen them play high-scoring clashes. For many, this is only a temporary phase in Simeone’s development of the unit, yet others believe that the Argentinian changed his style of play.
Manchester City possible starting lineup: Ederson; Akanji, Dias, Laporte; Stones, Rodri; Bernardo, Kovacic, Foden, Grealish; Haaland
Atletico Madrid: Oblak, Molina, Hermoso, Savic, Gimenez, Koke, Saul, Carrasco, Witsel, Correa, Griezmann
During the 2021/22 campaign, the Citizens and Atletico met in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. After 1-0 at the Etihad, the result in the second leg was 0-0, and Man City advanced to the semis, where they lost to Real Madrid.
Given that Atletico plays efficient games, we should see at least three goals here. Yes, Simeone will probably set up defensive-minded tactics, but not as before. This new Atletico likes to open up and strike during the event. Meanwhile, on the other side, we have City who is more than excellent when talking about the offense.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
