Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Borussia Dortmund vs. Chelsea at Club Friendlies
The Millionaires and the Blues met in the Round of 16 of this year’s UEFA Champions League. Chelsea was better, so Dortmund has a slight motive to get back at their English counterparts. These two units have a solid fanbase in the United States, and the American media already started creating hype. Both squads had disappointing campaigns, with Dortmund losing the title in the last round, while Chelsea missed all the international competitions and experienced multiple blows.
Borussia Dortmund
The Millionaires already played five games so far. The finish of their preseason campaign will be extremely tough, with them already clashing with Manchester United and now with Chelsea.
Borussia lost Jude Bellingham in the midfield but, in the meantime, landed Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha, who have the potential to replace the young Englishman. From what we saw in these past events, the Millionaires will have the same offensive-minded playstyle.
Fast transition, quick counter-attacks, and short passes in the midfield, that was Borussia’s tactics in the previous campaign. It appears that the team’s rotation is a bit shorter, but that could change until the end of the transfer window.
Chelsea
The Blues under Mauricio Pochettino look far more dangerous in the attack. For sure, their defense is more vulnerable, but for the moment, it appears that the attack has the power to cover up all the issues in the back line.
Speed is the main characteristic of this new Chelsea. Nkunku and Mudryk may be the fastest duo of forwards in Europe. The two guys already showed their potential during the preseason, and so far, it looks like Chelsea has a very potent offense.
Pochettino will need more time to click in all the lines, and the Blues need a little luck to stay healthy and avoid injuries like during the previous year.
Borussia Dortmund: Kobal; Meunier, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Ozcan, Nmecha; Adeyemi, Reus, Hazard; Haller
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Cucurella, Silva, Chalobah, Hall; Fernandez, Casadei; Moreira, Mudryk, Sterling; Nkunku
As stated, the two units met in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 last season. The first meeting in Dortmund saw the hosts winning 1-0, and saving their life in the event’s finish. However, they failed to keep the advantage in London, with Chelsea winning 2-0.
Anything below three goals in this game would be a big surprise. These teams are extremely offensive, and their entire philosophy is focused on scoring goals, not protecting their own. Dortmund and Chelsea play fast, and intense football, with plenty of action in front and inside both boxes, and that’s why we have to go with over 2.5 hits.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
