Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for UFC Nashville: Cory Sandhagen vs. Rob Font

  • Where: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee
  • When: Saturday, July 5

The main event of the UFC Nashville is the bantamweight bout between the fourth-ranked in the division, Cory Sandhagen, and the seventh-seeded, Rob Font. The organization didn’t plan to be like that, because the original bout was supposed to be between Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov. Though, the Russian fighter withdrew due to a shoulder injury, and Font stepped in to replace him. According to all the odds, Sandhagen is a big favorite, but still, Font hopes to make a surprise.

UFC Nashville: Cory Sandhagen vs. Rob Font Preview

Cory Sandhagen

The Sandman had a shot at the title, but he lost to Petr Yan, who was much better than him at the time. After that, the American posted two wins in a row. His first victory was over Song Yadong, a first-round KO, in the night’s main event.

Sandhagen’s most recent contest was against Marlon Vera, also in the main event of the night, and he won that only following a split decision. It was a back-and-forth clash that brought out the best of both guys.

Sandman holds notable wins over Frankie Edgar (the legendary flying knee), Marlon Moraes, and Raphael Assuncao. He is a very creative hitter inside the octagon who doesn’t hesitate to try odd and complicated shots from unexpected positions. Spinning kicks, knees, elbows, jump kicks, he will try it all on his rivals.

Rob Font

The 36-year-old is one of the most consistent guys in the division. He has been fighting at a high level for quite some time, but he never got the chance to attack the belt. He would always lose bouts that were either title eliminators or had such significance.

Font’s last rush toward the top ended with two defeats in a row. At first, he lost to Jose Aldo, via unanimous decision, and afterward, to Marlon Vera in the same way. These two battles were supposed to bring him closer to the challenger status, yet that didn’t happen. A good thing for him was that he bounced back pretty confidently, trashing Adrian Yanez via hard KO.

The guy from Massachusetts is a disciplined fighter, not that creative like Sandhagen, but versatile in the standup. He has a long reach for a bantamweight, which enables him to hurt his rivals from a distance. Font’s chin is very stable and tough, as he never suffered a KO, and throughout his career, this guy was finished only once.

UFC Nashville: Cory Sandhagen versus Rob Font Predictions

Font’s problem here is that he isn’t as good on the mat as Sandhagen. To be perfectly straight, both of these guys aren’t the elite when it comes to this area of the fight, but the Sandman’s arsenal on the ground is better than his rivals’. This should be enough to provide him with a victory in this event.
