Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Burnley vs. Manchester City at Premier League
The Clarets are back in the Premier League, and their opener will be the toughest possible, facing the European and English champions, Manchester City. It is spectacular on one end, but on the other, very demanding and challenging. As for the Citizens, this will be the beginning of a quest for yet another title. Many believe this team is fed up, but according to Guardiola’s words, that isn’t the case, and he wants to prove that.
Burnley
It was a busy summer at Turf Moore, the place which saw tens of players leaving and coming. Though, only a few transfers were notable, and we might say that the Clarets kept the backbone of the team, adding a few solid prospects.
One of them is Man City’s James Trafford, who is now solely Burnley’s, as well as Zeki Amdouni, a very talented forward coming from the Swiss powerhouse Basel. They also landed Jonathan Beyer from Borussia Monchengladbach, and these three guys cost around $50 million.
Burnley had a few preseason tests this summer, and the most important ones were against Benfica and Betis. They beat the Eagles, 2-0, and after that, played 1-1 against the Spanish unit, in a game that saw plenty of action and two red cards.
Manchester City
Guardiola’s boys began the preseason long ago and had several incredibly tough games up until now. Bayern, Atletico Madrid, and Arsenal, they all face the champs.
However, from what we saw in those events, the Treble winners enter the year fully ready to play without too many issues. Gundogan’s departure will be covered up with Mateo Kovacic, and the only thing which needs to be sorted out is De Bruyne’s health.
City attacks constantly, and their main advantage is Haaland, who can smash any defense in the world without having the slightest trouble. Also, Jack Grealish is slowly becoming the leading forward in terms of playmaking, which creates a lot of space for others.
Burnley: Muric, Taylor, Ekdal, Beyer, Roberts, Cullen, Cork, Zaroury, Brownhill, Redmond, Rodriguez
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Laporte, Ake; Rodri, Kovacic; Silva, Foden, Grealish; Haaland
The last meeting was in the FA Cup this March, and City humiliated the Clarets, beating them 6-0. It was the 11th consecutive victory in direct meetings, and the seventh straight in which City didn’t concede.
City will be a favorite against any given team in the Premiership, let alone against the newcomer from the Championship. That’s why we pick them to triumph here and start the season confidently.
Our verdict: Manchester City wins
