Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Chelsea vs. Liverpool at English Premier League
The Blues and the Reds clash in the first big derby of the English Premier League this season. Stanford Bridge will tell us a lot about their state following the utterly disappointing campaigns these two clubs had last year. Chelsea suffered a lot of changes, and hopes to stabilize under manager Mauricio Pochettino. Liverpool finally recovered from all the injuries, and Klopp can count on all of his players.
Chelsea
Blues have a completely different look. So far, they’ve performed solidly during the preseason, but it is still early to give some long-term prognosis about their potential. The talent is there, it only needs to be brushed.
Chelsea didn’t lose a single event during its tour through the United States, winning three events and posting two draws. The rivals weren’t easy at all, Newcastle, Dortmund, Fulham, Brighton etc. Three of these events saw Pochettino’s unit both scoring and conceding and in the same number of clashes the Blues netted twice.
The big problem for Poch is Nkunku’s injury, and the fast French forward won’t be in the protocol. Overall, Chelsa played interesting and appealing football during the preseason, and we’ll see if they continue in the same manner.
Liverpool
The Reds lost to Bayern Munich in the most recent event, 3-4, but that didn’t concern Klopp, who was satisfied with the way his unit played during the summer. Yes, there are certain glitches in the defense, but the offense is more than ready to take on the upcoming challenges.
Liverpool scored 15 goals in four tests, with Salah, Nunez, and the rest of the company looking pretty ruthless upfront. We’ve seen them fast, flamboyant and, what is more important, efficient, not wasting chances like in the previous season.
All of Liverpool’s games during the preseason period were with at least four goals, and three were with six or more on both ends.
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga; James, Silva, Colwill, Chilwell; Santos, Fernandez; Sterling, Chukwuemeka, Mudryk; Jackson
Liverpool: Alisson, Milner (c), Gomez, Konate, Robertson, Bajcetic, Thiago, Keita, Elliott, Gakpo, Salah
Both of the last year’s events between the Blues and the Reds ended without goals, which is odd. When looking further back in the past, we can see that, in fact, four in a row ended 0-0.
This game will head in a completely opposite direction from the previous ones, because these two teams play very offensive and aggressive football. Plus, their defenses are fragile, unlike the attacks, which tend to be extremely deadly. In our opinion, over 2.5 hits here is a safe bet, and that would be the final suggestion.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
