Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Netherlands vs. England at EURO 2024
The Oranje and England sure have a great history, but this game might be one of the most important in their rivalry. The stakes are high, with the title match at the table, and there won’t be a second time to make up for any mistakes. Oranje looked much better than the rivals up so far, yet that doesn’t mean anything at this stage because one error, one lousy reaction, can erase all that.
Netherlands
Oranje fell back once again, but they showed all their quality in the second half, slowly, confidently, and without any panic, breaking the Turks and their defiance. Ronald Koeman did well at halftime, giving the right instructions and choosing the right tactics.
Yet that’s easy with Cody Gakpo, Depay, and Simmons on the pitch. They are ravaging all the defenses, and even in the game against France, the only one in which they haven’t scored, we saw them making plenty of trouble for the Gauls.
Only one of this team’s last nine games saw under 2.5 hits, and during that stretch, Oranje scored two or more goals in nine appearances. This is the ultimate proof of this unit’s offensive qualities.
England
Luck is behind England, that’s for sure. Not only did the Three Lions deserve to go home against Slovakia, but it wasn’t any different against Switzerland. Penalties were on their side, unlike so many times in history, but many questions will fortune follow Southgate and his boys until the very end of the tournament.
Since the 2024 EURO started, we haven’t seen England outplaying any rival. Even against Serbia, in the only game they’ve won after 90 minutes, the Three Lions looked pale without any sharpness upfront.
All five matches played in Germany saw under 2.5 hits, but three ended 1-1. Overall, the team’s offensive potential isn’t noticeable at all. Foden, Saka, Kane, Palmer, etc., we haven’t seen anything from these lads at all.
Netherlands: Verbruggen; Dumfries, de Vrij, van Dijk, Aké; Schouten, Reijnders; Malen, Simons, Gakpo; Depay
England: Pickford; Walker, Konsa, Stones; Trippier, Bellingham, Mainoo, Rice, Foden, Saka; Kane
The previous clash was in the 2019 UEFA Nations League, which ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Oranje won the following extra times, 3-1. Prior to that, there were friendlies in 2018, 0-1 for England and 2016 1-2 for the Netherlands.
Despite England being a slight favorite, the Netherlands is our pick to advance to the finals. They look better and more fluid, and even though they have certain problems in defense, Oranje’s chemistry seems healthier overall.
Our verdict: Netherlands advances
