Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Netherlands vs. Hungary at Nations League
Oranje is on a downhill slide, and this game might be crucial for their UEFA Nations League aspirations. They and Hungary have the same number of points, five, and with two rounds to go, their direct matchup will decide who goes to the playoffs and who enters the relegation play-out. So stay tuned and see this betting preview.
Netherlands
As time goes by the Netherlands’ results are starting to decline. They opened the competition with a win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, and after that had two ties in a row, vs. Germany and Hungary, the latter on the road.
This unit’s most recent matchup was against Germany on the road, which they lost 1-0 after a grueling battle and less-than-impressive performance.
That event was Oranje’s first after five straight not to include both teams netting. It was also only the third in the recent 10 with under 2.5 hits. Though, that’s because the Netherlands always plays offensive and aggressive football, trying to impose a high-intensity tempo and score as many goals as possible.
Hungary
Hungary’s form is going in the opposite direction. This team gradually improved after a loss in the opening event, a 5-0 catastrophe vs. Germany on the road. Over the course of three UNL contests, they would collect five points.
They played without goals with Bosnia and Herzegovina at home and then added a 1-1 tie versus Oranje also in Budapest. Finally, Marco Rossi’s unit posted its first triumph in the UEFA Nations League, 0-2 on the road in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hungary’s recent matches have been inefficient, and five of the latest six concluded with under 2.5 hits. That’s Rossi’s signature, as he always preferred using defensive-minded tactics. It’s no different this time.
Netherlands: Verbruggen; Dumfries, Van Dijk, De Ligt, Hato; Gravenberch, Reijnders; Lang, Simons, Gakpo; Weghorst
Hungary: Gulacsi; Botka, Dardai, Orban; Bolla, A. Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez; Sallai, Szoboszlai; Varga
As stated, the first game in Budapest ended without a winner, 1-1. Oranje played better but couldn’t win. We also have to remind you that the guests had fewer players on the pitch but scored anyway. Sallai gave the hosts the lead, while Dumfries equalized seven minutes before the end. Van Dijk was sent off.
This is a no-brainer for us. The Netherlands will win, even though the recent results wouldn’t favor Oranje that much. But on the other hand, they play at home, and we saw them dominating against Hungary on the road, dominating the rivals in pretty much every aspect of play. And in general, they have better players on the roster. It’s a match ball for hosts, who simply have to use it.
Our verdict: Netherlands Wins
