Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Nice vs. Benfica at UEFA Champions League
Nice hosts Benfica, who didn’t have too much free time this summer. The Portuguese powerhouse has participated in the FIFA Club World Cup, and after that, had little time to regenerate and prepare for the start of new challenges. As for Nice, they are fully focused on reaching the UCL, and even though they are underdogs in this matchup, the goal remains the same: victory.
Nice
The Eagles from southern France have largely retained the backbone of the team from the previous season. We’ve seen some departures, but solid players have signed for Nice, who aim to reach the UCL and earn a significant amount of money.
Franck Haise opened the preseason early in July, and the team had played 6 control matches, trying to get in the best possible shape before the start of the UCL qualifiers. Nice’s results were solid, four triumphs with one loss and defeat each.
What’s noticeable is that the team scores plenty of goals, and that in all but one of those friendlies, Nice netted at least twice. Also, in all but one, they’ve conceded at least a goal.
Benfica
After a solid performance at the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA, Benfica came back to Europe to regenerate. The Portuguese Eagles have played just one friendly match, which was against Fenerbahçe, whom they defeated 3-2.
For those who forgot, Benfica was undefeated at the FIFACWC group stage, defeating both Bayern and Auckland, while playing to a 2-2 draw against Boca. However, they would collapse in the Round of 16 against Chelsea, losing in extra time 1-4 and conceding three goals.
This team likes to attack and isn’t afraid to take possession against much stronger teams, then press them. That makes their games efficient and enjoyable to watch. Just to mention that one of the last 5 didn’t end with over 2.5 goals.
Nice: Diouf; Bard, Mendy, Bah, Dante, Clauss; Bounani, Boudaoui, Sanson; Jansson, Moffi.
Benfica: Trubin; Dahl, Otamendi, Silva, Dedic; Veloso, Barranechea, Rios; Akturkoglu, Aursnes, Pavlidis
In 2022, Benfica defeated Nice in a club friendly, 3-0. That’s the last time these two teams met.
Both Nice and Benfica play an open style of football, characterized by a high number of goals. We can’t claim who will win here, but we are fairly certain that at least three goals will be scored. Nice plays offensive-minded football, as does Benfica, and both teams have significantly better attacks than defenses, which is a recipe for high efficiency.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
