Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev meet in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. We haven’t witnessed these two guys meeting often, and this is a nice chance to see where they stand one against another. Djokovic is a massive favorite before the clash, and overall, he is by far the biggest favorite in Australia. Rublev has his plans here, and even though the bookies don’t believe in him, be sure that the Russian will give 100% of his power to create a massive surprise.

Andrey Rublev vs. Novak Djokovic Preview

Rublev

The fifth seed in Australia had one heck of a challenge in the Round of 16, against Holger Rune. He had to go through five sets and three and a half hours of a fierce battle before eliminating the Danish star. Rublev’s serve was the key in this one, as he posted 22 aces, having only four double faults, compared to 12 Rune had.

The Russian was better in the tiebreak, 11-9, with a single mini-break creating all the difference. By the way, both of these guys had five break points each, but as said, mini-break determined the outcome here.

Rublev had a pretty rough road up to this point, beating Dominic Thiem in the first round, 3-0, then Emil Ruusuvuori, 3-1, and Daniel Evans in the third round, 3-0. Serve was doing well for No.6 in the ATP rankings, and it needs to be at the highest possible level against Djokovic, who is one of the best returners in history.

Djokovic

Novak rolled over Alex De Minaur in the round of 16, beating the home crowd favorite 3-0, not allowing him to have the slightest chance of making an upset. We saw the nine-time AO champion giving five games to De Minaur, showing all of his power when he is healthy and ready to roll.

Novak eliminated Robert Carballes Baena, Enzo Couacaud, and Grigor Dimitrov in the previous rounds. The only event in which he struggled was against Couacaud, against whom he lost a set. Still, that was because of his hamstring injury, which has bothered Djokovic since Adelaide.

Djokovic’s movement was heavily influenced because of that issue, and we’ve seen him bandage the thigh and massage it throughout the entire occasion. Against De Mianur, he didn’t have such problems, which is why he looked powerful.

Andrey Rublev vs. Novak Djokovic Head to Head

These two guys have met three times, and the record is on Djokovic’s side, with two wins and one defeat. The first clash was at the Nitto ATP Finals in Italy in 2021, and Novak won in two sets, then Rublev beat Djokovic in the 2022 Belgrade Open finals, 2-1, before another Nitto ATP Finals last winter, and Novak triumphed here as well, 2-0. Both of those events were in the group stage.

Andrey Rublev vs. Novak Djokovic Prediction

With Novak healthy, his chances of winning are extremely high. We respect Rublev and his quality, but in this case, he will lose to the fantastic Djokovic, who is on his way to title No.10 in Melbourne.
