Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Argentina vs. Ecuador at Copa America 2024
The top favorites for winning the Copa America title will have to meet with Ecuador in the quarterfinals. This will be a big test for Messi and the boys, who are still massive favorites to triumph. They have all three wins here and look very confident so far. Meanwhile, Ecuador presented solid performances, though with an unexpected loss to Venezuela in the opening round.
Argentina
The world champions haven’t allowed a single goal in these three games, which is another reason they won the title in Qatar two years ago. After beating Canada 2-0 in the opening game, they were better than Chile, 1-0, and finally Peru, 2-0.
We’ve seen them play routinely in all three matches, not lose too much energy, and save all the players from unnecessary injuries and suspensions. They’ve been playing rationally so far, yet now we expect to see the Gauchos in their best shape.
Just to add that Argentina has eight consecutive victories, six with clean sheets. On the other hand, in the same number of events, we saw them net twice or more. All were pretty confident performances by Messi and his crew.
Ecuador
After several interesting matches, Ecuador had a rather dull event against Mexico, which ended without goals. We understand that the stakes were high, yet we expected more from Sombreros, who, apart from the controversially canceled penalty, didn’t show too much, allowing El Tri to advance to the knockout stage.
Prior to this match, Ecuador had four with three or more goals and both teams netting, presenting enjoyable football.
Fantastic physicality is the team’s main virtue. Their midfielders are among the best in the tournament and are the cause of Ecuador’s success. Note that several youngsters whose performances will only improve as time goes by.
Argentina: E Martinez; Molina, Romero, Li Martinez, Acuna; Paredes, De Paul, Mac Aster, Lo Celso; Messi, Alvarez
Ecuador: Dominguez; Pacho, Torres, Hincapie; Franco, Caicedo, Yeboah, Gruezo, Sarmiento; Paez, Valencia
Ecuador hasn’t won against Argentina since 2015 and the World Cup qualifiers. Since then, we have seen seven games and six wins of the Gauchos, who beat the rivals in the most recent two with the same result, 1-0.
Argentina is a huge favorite here, and we need to bet on their victory. There are numerous reasons for that, yet the most important would be the overall quality and the current form, with both being heavily on Argentina’s side.
Our verdict: Argentina wins.
