Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Calvin Kattar vs. Josh Emmett at UFC Fight Night.
The clash between Calvin Kattar and Josh Emmett will make things much clearer in the featherweight division. We have here a battle between the No.4 and No.7 in the division, and whoever wins, will go even higher, maybe even earning a title shot. Some suggest that the title eliminator is a sure thing for the winning side. Both Kattar and Emmett are experienced fighters, who are well-known in the UFC world, and it is no wonder why the organization chose them to headline one event.
Kattar
The 34-year-old was on the verge of reaching the chance to attack the title, but he couldn’t pass one obstacle – Max Holloway. One-sided domination from the Blessed one forced Kattar to return to the gym and work more. Announced as a battle of two of the best boxers in the division, the fight was very amusing, but Holloway clearly won it.
After that, Kattar took one-year leave and returned on January 15, 2022, in a headliner of the UFC on ESPN against Giga Chikadze. He was extremely confident and dominant against the Georgian fighter, posting a unanimous decision win, improving his record to 23-5. Before losing to Holloway, Kattar was on a two-win streak after knocking out Jeremy Stephens and beating Dan Ige via unanimous decision.
What we can say about this guy is that he really possesses extraordinary boxing skills and knows how to hurt his rival. A relatively solid reach of 72 inches is enough for Kattar to control the distance, and he usually dictates the tempo once fighting in the standup.
Emmett
Josh Emmett is a veteran, 37-years-old, but with far fewer fights than Kattarr. Emmett had 19 battles, winning 17 of them and suffering two losses, one against Jeremy Stephens back in 2018 and the other in 2017 against Desmond Green, via split decision. Though, we need to say that he had never reached Kattar’s status in the division and that this was the most significant battle in his career.
Emmett faced solid names in the featherweight division, such as Ricardo Lamas, Michael Johnson, Mirsad Bektic, Shane Burgos, and Dan Ige. After losing to Stephens, he won the contests against the latter four from the above-mentioned, pumping up his bio and significantly improving.
He likes to wrestle, and he has a background in that aspect of fighting. Like Kattar, Emmett’s cardio is also at a very high level, and in his 17 wins, nine were via decision. Of the other eight, six were via KO and two by submission. Though, he only once saw all five rounds in the octagon.
Kattar is our pick here because of a few things. The first is that he has a reach advantage, which is a very big deal for this guy. He very well controls the gap between him and the rival, and two inches, in this case, are going to make a huge difference.
The other very important thing is the championship-round experience. Kattar knows how to behave in such situations, while on the other side, Emmett doesn’t. Plus, he is 37 years old. All in all, our pick here would be Kattar.
Our Verdict: Kattar Wins
