The preview for the UFC clash Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal with odds and prediction.
When: Saturday, March 5
Where: T-Mobile Arena, Paradise, Nevada
Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal meet in the headliner of the UFC 272, which should be one of the most interesting events this year. The two former sparring partners and close friends have a lot of bad blood between them, which is what makes this fight so special. A win here would keep them among the top-ranked welterweights, but it wouldn’t give them another chance to face Kamary Usman, the champion, who now awaits other challengers.
Colby Covington
The former interim welterweight champion is one of the most controversial persons in the UFC, and we can say that if it isn’t for him, the UFC community would be much less fun. There isn’t the middle for this guy, as he either irritates the fans or thrills them.
Meanwhile, his fighting skills are superb. Covington is a vicious striker and knows how to hurt the rival from a distance. His striking technique isn’t a top one, but the power of hits is pretty solid. We need to say that he likes going forward once making combos, and that is an additional problem for the rivals.
Before starting his MMA career, Covington was a wrestling champion, so he knows how to handle the rivals once in a clinch or close battle. We saw Colby finishing off Tyron Woodley on the mat, but his biggest strength is his cardio. There aren’t many guys in the division who can compete with Colby in that aspect of the fight. Among others, he defeated Demian Maia, Rafael dos Anjos, Robbie Lawler all via unanimous decision.
Jorge Masvidal
The “Gamebred” or the “Street Jesus” is also a very interesting guy. His career started in the backyard fights, recorded, and then distributed via the internet. As time went by, Masvidal began rising through the ranks and eventually reached the UFC. Now, his blossom came late, but according to his words, that isn’t the problem as long as he earns enough money to secure himself in retirement.
Masvidal has an extremely solid chin, and even though his latest defeat against Usman isn’t proving that his endurance and absorbing ability are at a pretty staggering level. A loss against Usma was the first one for him in the UFC which happened before the final horn.
The 37-year old had one very impressive stretch that saw him beating Darren Till, Ben Askren, and Nate Diaz one after another, all via KO. A victory against Askren is arguably the fastest in the history of the UFC and one of the most spectacular ones.
Colby fought with Kamaru Usman for 10 rounds, and he won at least three if not four of them. As said, his endurance is one of the best in the entire organization, and on top of that, he has one big advantage over Masvidal, which is his wrestling. We expect to see Covington winning here and cementing his position as the No.1 challenger in the division.
