Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Lewis vs. Spivak at UFC 218
The Black Beast lost his touch in the recent battles, and that’s why he fell down to place No.7 in the heavyweight rankings. He is still one of the most adored people in the UFC, but we need to admit that he isn’t in his prime anymore. Spivak, on the other hand, has 27 years and the best years ahead of him. He is No.12 among heavyweights, and with a win here, the Moldovan fighter could break into the top 10, bringing him more top fights and more money.
Derrick Lewis
The Black Beast is known as one of the strongest punchers in the organization’s history. He has a very impressive bio, and plenty of top names among his victims. The biggest was the former UFC heavyweight champ, Francis Ngannou, and apart from him, Volkov, Abdurakhimov, Curts Blaydes etc.
Lewis’ current record is 26 wins and 10 losses, with him holding the UFC record for the number of KOs with 15. If he finishes Spivak, Lewis will become the sole holder of another record, which is the most finishes in UFC heavyweight history.
Though his form is on the decline, and it’s no wonder why many doubt him now. The Black Beast lost three of the past four events, defeating only Chris Daukas while losing to Ciryl Gane, Tai Tuivasa, and Sergei Pavlovich, all via KO. It seems that his chin isn’t as strong as before, while on the other hand, his striking defense hasn’t improved over the years.
Sergey Spivak
The Moldovan fighter has 15 wins and three losses so far, and his way of reaching success is pretty versatile. He has seven knockouts, six submissions and two decision triumphs. Overall, he has done well since joining the UFC, which is why Dana White decided to give him a chance to go up.
Spivak has five wins in the last six events, with the only loss coming to Tom Aspinall via first-round KO midway through 2021. After that, the 27-year-old bounced back, beating Greg Hardy and Augusto Sakai, both via TKOs. Among other notable wins, Spivak holds bragging rights over Tai Tuivasa, Alexey Oleinik, and Carlos Felipe.
He is not some powerful striker, but he knows to inflict damage inside the clinch. However, his ground game is excellent, with Spivak using his physique and very good cardio to beat rivals.
Derrick Lewis still has punching power in his hands, while on the other side, we can’t say that Spivak possesses a KO punch against tougher rivals. He is a good grappler, but Lewis rarely lost on the ground. That’s why we pick the Black Beast to win.
Our verdict: Lewis wins
