Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for England vs. Iran | Group Stage, World Cup Qatar 2022
The English team opens the World Cup tournament against Iran on Sunday afternoon. All the current tensions in the world give more spice to this contest, and despite England being a huge favorite, a vast part of the football community expects this to be a very tough and interesting matchup. The Three Lions came to Qatar to win the championship, while on the other end, Iran would be more than happy to earn one victory.
England
As said, the Three Lions are one of the top favorites to lift the trophy, though they were much higher placed among the bookies a few months ago. Their terrible form is something that worries fans across the country because, let us remind you, Albion was relegated from the UEFA Nations League top tier.
Did you know England didn’t win in the last six events, posting three victories and three defeats throughout that span? Harry Kane is among the best strikers in the world, yet, he and his teammates failed to score in four of those contests.
Historically, England wasn’t that well away from the European continent, and some of the pundits believe we will see the same outcome here.
Iran
This is one interesting team, because the core of the lineup is in its prime years, with several of the players playing major roles in their respective clubs. Iran evolved a lot, and their game is much better than in the past, because now their players are complete, learning and improving their tactical and mental qualities in Europe.
It is no wonder to see them beating Uruguay, 0-1, and playing 1-1 against Senegal in the most recent two tests before the World Cup kick-off. More or less, Iran was routine in its World Cup qualifications, winning eight of 10 events.
Sardar Azmoun, Ali Karimi, and Alireza Jahanbakhsh are just a few names that ring a bell wherever mentioned across Europe. Of course, Mehdi Taremi is the biggest name, and Porto’s striker leads this unit.
England: Ramsdale; Stones, Maguire, Walker, James; Rice, Foden, Saka, Mount; Kane, Sterling
Iran: Abedzadeh; Moharrami, Kanaani, Khalilzadeh, Jalali; Ezatolahi, Safi; Jahanbakhsh, Torabi, Taremi; Azmoun
We haven’t found any game between these two teams in the past.
The English side is a major favorite here, and we have to pick them to win this match. Iran is a very solid team, and they are much better than most fans think. However, that won’t be enough for them to overcome the obstacle called England. Gareth Southgate’s crew has a lot of players with incredible individual quality, and we are taking Three Lions in this one.
Our verdict: England wins
