Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for England vs. Slovenia at EURO 2024
England is the team that has disappointed us the most until this point of the 2024 EURO championship. We are becoming boring to our followers with the constant criticism of the tactics and Gareth Southgate, but that’s the reason for all this. Meanwhile, Slovenia didn’t lose in the opening two events, posting two ties, one against Denmark and the other against Serbia.
England
Gareth Southgate’s tactical experiments and game plan have made England look pretty poor in the opening 180 minutes of play in Germany. After beating Serbia with a minimal result, they would play 1-1 against Denmark, even though they got the first lead.
The midfield has massive problems, even though this part of the unit should be the strongest. The English boss doesn’t mingle with all the critics but stubbornly pushes his agenda.
If England doesn’t play well against Slovenia they won’t be the top favorite to win the title anymore. The question is also how long the players will tolerate his actions because they, too, showed some signs of frustration as well.
Slovenia
After snapping one point against Denmark and missing maybe a chance to take all three, Slovenia suffered a heartbreaking ending against Serbia, allowing a goal in the fifth minute of the injury time for the final score, 1-1.
They were so near to a victory that would secure them the spot in the final stage, but unfortunately, Luka Jovic crushed their hopes and dreams. Truth be told, Serbia was better in this match, and it would be unfair to see Slovenians taking the whole prey.
Once again, Matjaz Kek made a perfect setup for the match, exploiting the rival’s weak spots while carefully hiding his team’s. Slovenia was aggressive and tough in the midfield, with several players covering a huge area on the pitch.
England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier; Gallagher, Rice; Saka, Bellingham, Foden; Kane
Slovenia: Oblak; Karnicnik, Blazic, Bijol, Janza; Stojanovic, Gnezda Cerin, Elsnik, Mlakar; Sporar, Sesko
The previous pair of direct meetings between these units was during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. The game in Ljubljana saw no goals, while the match in London concluded with England’s very tight victory, 1-0. Overall, there have been six matches between England and Slovenia, and the Three Lions won all but one.
England looks disastrous in this EURO, but they can explode anytime due to their fantastic star power on the roster. Slovenia will be careful, searching for its chances on a break or through set pieces, with Kek presenting a conservative approach on the field. Due to Slovenia’s defensive-minded tactics and the English not-so-great form, we would pick a moderate efficiency for this meeting, meaning 2 or 3 goals.
Our verdict: 2 or 3 goals
