Euro 2020 (2021)

EURO 2020 has 24 teams divided into six groups. We will make a short preview of all six assemblies and make our verdict on the final standings in the same.

Group A

Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, Wales

We are not sure if you noticed, but the Italian team didn’t lose for 27 straight games, keeping a clean sheet in a vast majority of them. Azzurri are by far the best team in this group.

The fight for second place will be tight because Turkey and Switzerland come to this competition with high hopes. In this matchup, we give a slight edge to the Swiss, who seem to play tougher and have more tactical discipline than the Turks. As for Wales, they are a challenging but not that talented team, and we expect them to finish last.

Group B

Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Russia

The No.1 in FIFA rankings, Belgium, leads the way here, and despite having their top star Kevin De Bruyne recently picking up a slight injury, the Red Devils are the absolute favorites to win first place in Group B. This unit has so much potential, and we simply can’t see anyone beating them.

Now, about the second place, even though many believe that Russia and Denmark have equal chances for reaching the knockout stage, our money here is on the Danes. They have a rock-solid defense and better individual stars in the midfield. As for Finland, reaching EURO 2020 is a big success for these guys, but they won’t do anything noticeable apart from participating.

Group C

Netherlands, Austria, Ukraine, North Macedonia

Per many, the weakest group in the entire championship. The Netherlands comes to EURO without Virgil Van Dijk, who is, let’s say, at least 30% of this team. Austria is a solid team, but nothing more than that, while Ukraine is on the rise, yet still not quite there. As for North Macedonia, this unit is probably the weakest team in the entire championship.

The Netherlands should be first, while we predict Ukraine to finish second because of their young and not-so-popular players. We need to remind you that two years ago, this nation won the U20 World Cup. Many of those guys are in the first team now. Austria will be third, and the Macedonians last.

Group D

England, Croatia, Czech Republic, Scotland

The Three Lions are attacking the title here, and winning the group shouldn’t be too big of a problem. Gareth Southgate did have some issues with injuries before the start, but even with all that, England is way stronger than the rest of the group.

Croatia is on the decline since reaching the World Cup finals. However, this team still has exceptional players with the power and quality to defeat both Scotland and the Czech Republic, which is why we strongly believe in their advance to the knockout stage. Scotland will end third and the Czech’s last.

Group E

Spain, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia

Spain, the three-time continental champions and the last team that defended the crown, are starting this tournament with a completely new unit. All the former superstars are out, with the new kids on the block leading the national squad. The Red Fury still has the most sophisticated playstyle in Europe, and they won’t have too many troubles to win this group.

Poland and Sweden shall compete for the second spot. The latest results suggest that the Swedes play better and that their players are in better shape, unlike the Poles. Even without Zlatan (who is injured), Blagult should secure the ticket to the round of 16. As for Slovakia, this team can’t compete with other rivals from this group.

Group F

France, Germany, Portugal, Hungary

The “Death Group.” There is no other word on how to describe this crowd. Two of the latest World champions and the reigning EURO winner, plus the host of some matches. This is the most unpredictable group in the last few editions. This kind of quality at one place hasn’t been seen in a while.

The one sure thing is that Hungary won’t avoid finishing last. Anything else is uncertain. Our analysis was deep and thorough, but in the end, we didn’t have a unanimous verdict when it comes to the final order in the group. Portugal’s chances to progress to the round of 16 are highest, then comes France, and eventually Germany. But do know that the difference in chance percentage between Selecao and Die Mannschaft is less than 10%.
