Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for France vs. United States at Olympic Basketball Final
The Olympic basketball finals brought together the hosts, France and the US team. Both teams had to dig deep in the semis to reach here. France was better than Germany, while on the other hand, the USA team struggled against Serbia, making a big comeback in the final period, though with a little help from the officials. All that is forgotten now, as these two units meet in the finals this Saturday night.
France
After getting trashed in the group stage against the Germans, France opened the game in the same manner. Yet, as time passed, Fournier and the boys generated momentum, taking control of the floor and eventually beating the world champions 73-69.
France didn’t allow German players to reach the rim easily, and the tough and tight defense in the paint was the key to the win here.
Fantastic Guerschon Yabusele, the best French player in the knockout stage, scored 17 points and had seven boards, while Isaia Cordinier had one point fewer with seven boards. Wemby was terrible from the field, hitting four of his seven shots, 1-for-8 for three.
USA
The United States was down 17 points against Serbia and had a double-digit deficit coming into the fourth period. However, the six-point possession, in which Kevin Durant scored a three while Jokic fouled Davis and after which Booker added another three, changed everything. This was a highly controversial decision of the officials, along with several others, and it definitely cast a shadow on this event.
Steve Kerr’s boys cracked under pressure, and we had never seen them in problems like these. In the end, we can’t say they deserved to win.
However, the USA triumphed 95-91, and the guy responsible for that was Steph Curry, who made nine threes in 14 shots and scored 36 points with eight boards. Joel Embiid had 19 buckets, while LeBron recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 12 boards, and 10 assists.
France: Cordinier, Batum, Wembanyama, Yabusele, Fournier
USA: Booker, Holiday, Davis, James, Curry
The United States won the previous Olympics by beating the French team in the finals, 87-82. They met in the group stage of that tournament, where Gauls triumphed 83-76.
France did beat Germany, yet it was without a thrilling performance. We saw plenty of issues in their game, and if the Germans had been more focused, things would’ve been different. Meanwhile, after a scare in the semis, the USA will come out with a high sense of urgency, and we expect them to beat the hosts without any problems.
Our verdict: USA -12.5
