Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards at UFC 278
The headliner of the UFC 278 is between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards. This is the bout for the bantamweight title, which is currently held by Usman, who is arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC. On the other side is Edwards, the guy who waited for his chance to attack the belt for a long time. Rocky, as the fans call him, was in the title mix for a long time but constantly had jinxes and bad luck. He will finally have a shot at glory next Saturday. But not only that. His last loss was against Kamaru, and that only gives an additional motive to Edwards.
Kamaru Usman
The Nigerian Nightmare is the most dominant guy in the UFC at the moment. Even more than Israel Adesanya. This guy has 19 straight wins at the moment, with a record of 20-1. Kamaru has five consecutive title defenses, the most recent to Colby Covington, whom he beat at the UFC 268 via unanimous decision. That was in November 261, and his previous battle was against Masvidal at the UFC 261, which provided a fantastic KO finish.
Usman is the most dominant wrestler in the division, with unbelievable power and stamina. There isn’t a guy who could at least restrain him in that area, or resist his control.
But that is not all. Nine of Usman’s 20 wins were via KO, and some of them were pretty brutal, like the above-mentioned against Masvidal. Kamaru holds wins over Burns, Woodley, dos Anjos, Sean Strickland, etc.
Leon Edwards
Rocky is without a defeat in the previous 10 events, winning nine and having one no contest against Belal Muhammad, whom he accidentally poked in the eye. Edwards has been in the title mix for a long time, but he somehow always fell short of reaching an opportunity to attack the gold.
The last loss in his career was in 2015, once Kamaru outlasted him via unanimous decision. After that, the Brit was better than Vicente Luque, Bryan Barberena, Donald Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson, Dos Anjos, and at last, Nate Diaz.
Edwards is one of the guys with the best cardio in the UFC, and his endurance will have the toughest possible challenge against Kamaru, whose stamina is maybe the biggest weapon. Rocky has 19 wins, three losses, and one no contest, with 10 victories coming via decision and six via KO/TKO.
Usman is maybe the most dominant fighter in today’s MMA, and betting on anything else, but his win would be pretty stupid. We do respect Edwards, there is no doubt about it, but simply, that one strike he ate against Nate Diaz that shook him indicated that he can’t compete with Kamaru. Be sure that if Diaz didn’t taunt Rocky and instead went to finish the rival, we wouldn’t be looking at Edwards in the title fight now.
Our verdict: Usman wins
