Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nate Diaz at UFC 279
Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz are in the middle of attention at the upcoming UFC 279. The two welterweights are in the main event of the night and the fight that should be Diaz’s last in the UFC. One of the iconic figures of the organization will leave UFC following this one due to bad relationships between him and management, read Dana White. On the other side, Khamzat is in a hurry to win the division and become a champion. The fantastic Russian is undefeated so far, and all the odds suggest that it will stay like that after this battle.
Khamzat Chimaev
The Chechen fighter has 11 wins in 11 appearances inside the octagon, with just one triumph which isn’t inside the distance. That was the most recent clash, better to say, bloodbath against Gilbert Burns, whom Khamzat defeated via unanimous decision. It was one of the best fights in the past year or two, and it showed that Chimaev is really one of the best in the division.
What separates this guy from others is their fantastic wrestling and incredible stamina, which is maybe the best in the division. We’ve seen that he has enough gas in the tank for three rounds of brutal fighting, though, we haven’t seen him in the championship rounds.
Khamzat improved his striking a lot, and he now has lethal combinations which he throws in the octagon, which hasn’t been the case before. Six of his 11 wins were via KO, and four were via submission.
Nate Diaz
The younger of the Diaz brothers is in the UFC octagon for the final time. It is kinda sad to see one of the biggest legends saying farewell, especially in the way that he does, because the organization didn’t treat him well in recent years. On the other hand, he, too, had some pauses, wasting his best years outside the ring.
Diaz’s latest bout was against Leon Edwards, who went to win the title after that event. Rocky was punishing and beating the hell out of Diaz for four and a half rounds before Nate threw one fantastic punch that rocked Edwards. If he went to finish the fight instead of making fun of him, he would have won that, but that’s Nate Diaz, and that’s why he is so big.
A black belt in jiu-jitsu combined with street fighting made him so popular. His record is 20 wins and 13 losses, with four coming in the last five bouts.
Khamzat is a massive favorite, and we hate to agree, but it is like that. The Russian is bigger than Nate, has a longer reach, and is heavier. He could easily go to the middleweight and perform there without problems. We also think that his gas tank is deeper than Nate’s, who is 37 years. All in all, Chimaev will win here, probably inside the distance.
Our verdict: Khamzat Chimaev wins
