Finally, the highly anticipated rematch between Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad is upon us. Unlike their previous encounter, the stakes are sky-high, with Edwards holding the UFC welterweight title. That clash ended with a no contest following an accidental eye-poke Edwards inflicted on Edwards. Though, until that moment, he was way better than Belal. Their beef is also pretty big, which is why we expect to see a hell of an action.

Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad Preview

Leon Edwards

“Rocky” Edwards has been on an impressive unbeaten streak, having not lost a fight in almost nine years. His last flop came at the hands of Kamaru Usman in December 2015. Since then, Edwards has not only avenged that defeat by beating Usman twice and claiming the welterweight crown but also triumphed over Colby Covington in his most recent event, and guys like Rafael dos Anjos, Nate Diaz, Gunnar Nelson, Donald Cerrone and others. The only fight that ruined Edwards’ flawless streak was against the upcoming rival, and he intends to correct that.

Edwards’ endurance dramatically enhanced after he KOd Kamary in their second battle. While many will say that his triumph over the Nigerian Nightmare in Salt Lake might have been chalked up to fortune, the second win erased all the doubts. He outpaced and outperformed Usman, dethroning one of the most confident UFC champs at the time.

Edwards’ most potent weapons are his long reach, athletic build, and versatile arsenal of attacks, plus his pace. Additionally, his takedown defense heavily improved following Usman, but we can’t say that his grappling is elite.

Belal Muhammad

Muhammad’s unbeaten streak lasts more than five years, and during that stretch, he hasn’t lost in nine bouts. Plenty of high-profile opponents are in his notebook, like Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia, Vincente Luque (the only guy who KOd Belal in his career), and the most sounding of all, Gilbert Burns, whom Muhammad defeated at the UFC 288 following a unanimous decision after five rounds.

Muhammad holds a record of 23 wins against just three defeats. What is very interesting and important is that 17 victories came by decision. Belal doesn’t have KO power in his fists, but his methodical and disciplined approach in the ring greatly hurts his rivals. “Remember the Name,” as the fans call him, presses opponents and constantly moves quickly without lowering the pace, which sooner or later weakens the rivals. In general, stamina and quickness are Belal’s two biggest weapons.

Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad Predictions

Rocky is our pick, and we’ll explain why. He was so dominant in the first meeting that, in our personal opinion, Belal deliberately wanted the match to stop to avoid a defeat. Since then, Muhammad has improved, but not as much as Leon, who is now at another level. Edwards has everything Muhammad does and is way more powerful.

Our verdict: Edwards wins
