Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Liverpool vs. Chelsea at EPL
Liverpool hosts Chelsea in the clash of two fallen giants. We won’t talk too much about the struggles the Reds and the Blues had this season because everybody knows about them. Jurgen Klopp showed his frustration on a couple of occasions, and it seems that the German faces something he never did in the past. Graham Potter learns what it is like to work under pressure and with high goals set ahead of him. It was easy to lead Brighton, who was the campaign’s biggest surprise, yet this is a completely different show now.
Liverpool
The Reds were blown away in Brighton against the Potters’ previous club. The Seagulls rolled over the former champs, beating them 3-0 and outplaying the guests in all aspects of play. It was very tough for Liverpool fans to watch the second 45 minutes when they allowed all three scores.
The game at Amex was the third in a row for Liverpool in which they hadn’t won, after losing to Brentford on the road and a pale draw against Wolves at Anfield in the FA Cup, 2-2. In the end, came a knockout against Brighton, which was the ultimate proof that the Reds are in deep crisis.
As for the games at Anfield, the past five concluded with both teams scoring at least three goals, while four saw four or more, which tells us that the Reds’ affairs in Liverpool are extremely efficient.
Chelsea
The Blues had a lot of luck against Crystal Palace, whom they defeated this Sunday minimally at Stamford, 1-0. It was the first win for Potter’s guys following three losses in a row, in which Chelsea scored only one goal.
Overall, in the previous nine events across all the domestic competitions, including the Carabao and the FA Cup, Chelsea has just two wins, with one draw and six losses. Believe it or not, the Blues couldn’t deliver a goal on five occasions throughout this stretch.
Currently, they are catastrophic on the road. Chelsea didn’t win in the last six outings, losing five times and posting just one draw. Their goal difference during the streak is 3-14, which is kinda humiliating.
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Konate, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez
Chelsea: Kepa; Chalobah, T Silva, Koulibaly; Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kovacic, Cucurella; Mount, Havertz, Ziyech
Liverpool and Chelsea met four times last year, twice in the Premiership, 1-1 in Liverpool and 2-2 in London, and twice in respective cups, both in the finals. Liverpool was better on both occasions after the penalties, following a goalless 90 minutes.
This is a matchup perfect for both sides to score. Liverpool’s defense is atrocious, allowing goals against almost every rival that comes along. It isn’t much better with Chelsea, especially on the road.
Our verdict: Both teams to score
