Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Manchester City vs. Chelsea at English Premier League
The Citizens had a clash in the UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid this Wednesday, but that isn’t an alibi in case they fail to defeat Chelsea this Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s unit has a nice chance of practically securing the English Premier League title with a win here because they won’t have a tough schedule in the weeks that come after. Meanwhile, Chelsea is in problems, but at least the Blues are safe in the middle of the standings.
Manchester City
The Citizens didn’t lose in the English Premier League for almost six months, and they are currently riding an 11-game winning streak in the domestic championship. Pep Guardiola couldn’t have targeted the form better than this.
Since New Year’s Eve and a 1-1 draw against Everton, Man City won nine in a row in the Premiership, netting at least twice in each of those victories, often more. There weren’t any teams throughout that stretch able to slow down the champions.
City was very confident at home during the entire season, having 16 wins in 18 appearances at the Etihad, with a tie and a loss besides that. They scored a league-high 59 goals while allowing only 17.
Chelsea
This has been one of the worst seasons for the Blues in the past two or three decades. At first, they lost their owner, who forcefully had to leave the club, then spent a lot of money for nothing, fired two coaches, and in the end, had a completely miserable record on all fronts.
Frank Lampard was brought back to conclude this nightmare, but the former captain can only do a little in the current situation. His Blues have only one win in the previous ten events, on the road in Bournemouth, 1-3, with seven losses and two draws.
If nothing, Chelsea’s matches have become interesting in terms of goals, with the previous four finishing with at least four hits, on both sides too.
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Akanji; Stones, Rodri; Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Grealish; Haaland
Chelsea: Kepa; Chalobah, Silva, Badiashile, Azpilicueta; Kante, Fernandez, Kovacic; Madueke, Havertz, Sterling
The first meeting of the year at Stamford saw Man City’s victory, 0-1, and after that, the Citizens posted another win, this time in the FA Cup, where they demolished the rivals, 4-0. It was their fifth consecutive victory over Blues, all of them without a goal conceded.
We absolutely expect to see the Citizens beating the Blues and extending their winning streak against the rivals from London. There is no way for the guests to avoid defeat with the way they play right now. Plus, City chases the title and has a home-court edge.
Our verdict: Manchester City wins
