Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Manchester United vs. Liverpool at English Premier League
The biggest English football derby is on the menu, as Manchester United clash with Liverpool this Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford. The rivalry between these two sides is worldwide, and we don’t need to explain anything regarding the intensity of battles once these two clubs collide. United is not in good shape, and the rumors about Erik Ten Hag’s departure have emerged again. Meanwhile, Liverpool opened the league with two wins and is in good form.
Manchester United
United’s defense has been ridiculous for quite some time. With all due respect to Brighton, who is in excellent shape, and we don’t want to diminish their success, United’s backline is performing like an amateur one.
Instead of strengthening this part of the unit, Ten Hag was splashing money for all kinds of players, so we now see the consequences. Beating Fulham in the opener was pure luck, but fortune wasn’t on United’s side at Amex.
The Red Devils have had just two clean sheets in eight games, counting the preseason. Sometimes, the offense has managed to cover up all those problems and subpar performances of the colleagues from the defense, but not all the time.
Liverpool
Like against Ipswich in the first round, the Reds had a routine win over Brentford in the second EPL clash. The Bees showed character and will to compete, but simply that wasn’t enough for rational and very powerful Liverpool.
Arne Slot’s boys scored a goal in each half, just enough to take down a very solid and unpredictable guest. Luis Diaz and Mo Salah have put their names on the scoresheet, netting each and pushing the Reds towards another victory.
What can we say about the Reds and Slot right now? It’s evident that he isn’t willing to push the players to their max right away, but rather slowly learns about the team and its characteristics, not chasing big wins.
Manchester United: Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Mainoo; Amad, Fernandes, Garnacho; Zirkzee
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota
There have been 214 head-to-head games between these rivals, and Manchester has more wins, 83, while Liverpool racked up 71, with 60 events concluding with a draw. Both EPL games last year saw ties, 0-0 in Liverpool and 2-2 at Trafford, but Manchester earned bragging rights, beating the Reds in the FA Cup.
Liverpool is in better shape, and if Ten Hag cracks under pressure and decides to open and attack the Reds will have a nice chance to beat the big rivals, whose defense is terrible. We do get it that playing against Manchester at Trafford is tough, but then again, their performances give us reason to bet on the Reds, which we will do.
Our verdict: Liverpool wins
