Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Manchester United vs. Manchester City at English Premier League
The Manchester Derby isn’t surrounded with hype as in the past few years. The reason – poor results of both teams. City’s title is lost, and Guardiola’s unit has only the FA Cup as a potential destination to win the trophy this season. United is terrible, sitting in the lower half of the EPL standings, trying to gain consistency and improve.
Manchester United
Until last weekend, United had four games without a loss. The most recent two were wins in the Europa League to Sociedad, 4-1, and the Premiership, vs. Leicester, 0-3. Was this just a short spark, or really a sign of progress will be revealed in this affair?
United’s only loss at Trafford in the past five matches was against Fulham in the FA Cup, when the Cottagers triumphed after the penalties. It took one way for Amorim to win the trophy, leaving only the Europa League as an option.
Believe it or not, United conceded at least a goal in the past 12 consecutive matches at home. That tells enough about their defense. Also, in eight of them, we saw over 2.5 goals.
Manchester City
City came back from behind against Bournemouth to beat the Cherries at Vitality Stadium, 1-2. It was a good sign for Guardiola’s boys, who collapsed so many times this year after conceding.
However, their defensive woes continue. This was the eighth game in the last ten across all competitions where City allowed a goal. It is similar when looking only at the away events, which happened seven times in the previous ten outings.
Guardiola’s crew has a neutral record on the road, with six wins and losses each and two ties. The goal difference is positive for them, 15-21.
Manchester United: Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Yoro; Dalot, Fernandes, Ugarte, Dorgu; Garnacho, Hojlund, Zirkzee
Manchester City: Ederson; Nunes, Gvardiol, Dias, O’Reilly; Gonzalez, Gundogan, Savinho, De Bruyne, Doku; Marmoush
United won the first game of the year at the Etihad, 1-2. It was an excellent comeback for the guests, who netted twice inside the last three minutes through Fernandes and Diallo.
This was the third game in a row in which City couldn’t win during the regular 90 minutes. There was a Charity Shield game in August this year, where we saw a 1-1 tie over the regular part of the game, but City won via penalties.
United plays open and offensive football at home. This, along with the fact that both teams have terrible defenses and much better offense, would make our betting pick here for both teams to score and score over 2.5 goals.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
