Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Marlon Vera vs. Dominick Cruz at UFC Fight Night.
Marlon Vera and Dominick Cruz headline the upcoming UFC Fight Night on August 13. The two bantamweights hope to secure a title shot with a win in this contest. While Vera didn’t reach those heights before, Cruz is a former champion who wants to come back and win the belt once again before his retirement. He is a veteran in the organization, while Vera is yet to hit his peak, and is only at the start of his prime.
Marlon Vera
El Chito is on a three-bout winning streak, taking down Davey Grant, Frankie Edgar, and Rob font during that streak. He is one of the division’s most aggressive and agile fighters, and his bursts are very impressive, especially when he catches the rival off guard.
Vera is super-dangerous when he finds the rhythm in the stand-up, and his combos and mixes can be extremely effective. Seven KO wins are the best proof for this claim. But, that doesn’t mean that the Ecuadorian doesn’t know to finish the bout on the mat. So far, he has posted eight submission wins and has only four victories in which he won via decision.
One of his victories that drew the most attention was against Sean O’Malley at the UFC 252, once he KOd the rival in the first round. His last loss came against Jose Aldo in December 2020, and that was a unanimous decision. By the way, all of his seven losses were via decision.
Dominick Cruz
The Dominator is one of the biggest names in the UFC. It is a pity that he took almost a four-year pause between 2016 and 2020, losing the rhythm and time. Cruz lost to Cody Garbrandt at the UFC 207, handing away his belt. Four years later, he met Henry Cejudo in a title bout but lost that one too.
Later on, the veteran got back to the basics. He would meet with Casey Kenney and triumph via split decision, and after that, Pedro Munhoz, whom he defeated without any problems, via unanimous decision.
Cruz has 16 decision wins, and even though he is 36 years old, the Dominator’s gas tank is still extensive. What is also stunning is the fact that his footwork and movement inside the octagon didn’t change a bit, and that Cruz is still looking beautiful when attacking and firing his unusual punches.
Vera is a young guy who is going up, and for the moment, he is the biggest task for Cruz after a while. We can’t get rid of the impression that Chito might be the one who will send Cruz to retirement or at least crush his title dreams. Vera really looks good these days, and we have to give him the edge in this bout.
Our verdict: Vera wins
