Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Monchengladbach vs. Leverkusen at Bundesliga
The opening game of this year’s Bundesliga season takes place in Monchengladbach, where Borussia will host the champion, Bayer Leverkusen. There are a lot of questions ahead of this event; first and foremost, is Bayer capable of winning yet another championship? They’ve opened the season with a Super Cup win and have gained some momentum. Meanwhile, Borussia’s preseason performances have been excellent, and they want to use that momentum to open the Bundesliga in the best possible way.
Borussia Monchengladbach
Monch’s preseason started in late July, and since then, this team has played seven test games and ope in the DFB Pokal. They won all of them, mostly without conceding a goal. Sure, the rivals weren’t some high-caliber units, but beating Strasbourg twice, Holsten Kiel, Fortuna Sittard, and lastly, Aue must boost the morale.
The offense was solid in these events, netting two or more goals in each but two, yet as we said, the defense was excellent, posting five clean sheets.
The team didn’t change its roster, with only a few players coming or leaving, so they don’t need much time to click. Borussia was a formidable rival last year, and we expect them to be at the same level.
Bayer Leverkusen
Leverkusen started the season with a win in the German Super Cup, beating Stuttgart after penalties. The regular 90 minutes ended without winners, 2-2. Their triumph is even more impressive because they played with fewer players on the pitch for more than 50 minutes.
Once again, we saw Patrik Schick’s late magic, with the Czech player hitting the back of the net for an equalizer in the 88th minute of the match.
Leverkusen’s late or stoppage-time goals were the foundation of their success last year. This only shows the fighting mentality of the unit, which scored more than a dozen goals around and after the 90th minute in the previous campaign.
Borussia Monchengladbach: Nicolas; Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Netz; Reitz, Weigl; Honorat, Stoger, Plea; Kone
Bayer Leverkusen: Hradecky; Tapsoba, Tah, Hincapie; Frimpong, Xhaka, Andrich, Grimaldo; Wirtz, Adli; Boniface
Monch couldn’t score a single goal against Lever last year, losing 0-3 at home and then playing 0-0 in Leverkusen. They have been without a victory against this team since 2019, and during that span, they have lost seven times and have two draws.
Borussia’s defense was solid in preseason, but now comes the real deal in the shape of a fantastic Leverkusen offense. The only way for the hosts to win is to play open and aggressive and try to outscore the champions, which is why we pick over 2.5 scores here.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
