Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Newcastle vs. Chelsea at English Premier League
Newcastle is in the UCL zone, sitting third in the English Premier League standings, while Chelsea holds the spot No.7, six points behind the Magpies, yet with a game in hand. That’s why this clash is highly significant, as it could be a possible tiebreaker in the Champions League race at the end of the year. Newcastle’s performances have been quite well, and even though the team from the north didn’t have some explosive signings this summer, they are pushing well. Chelsea slowed down recently and is currently without a win for four EPL games.
Newcastle
The Magpies have just one defeat this year, with seven wins and six draws, and are currently without a loss in the past nine events. Eddie Howe’s crew started to play much better since the start of October, having triumphed in six of seven games and right now rides a four-event winning streak.
In the last two events, they scored four goals each, at first beating Aston Villa at St. James’ Park, 4-0, before going to Southampton, where they rolled over the Saints, 1-4.
Howe’s crew has a very tough defense, and the reason for all the good results this year was the defenders who provided stability to the entire team.
Chelsea
So the Blues haven’t won in the previous four EPL games. The only front in which they push well is the UCL, where Chelsea secured the top spot in its assembly and now meets Dortmund.
After two EPL draws came two defeats, to Brighton 4-1 at Amex, and to Chelsea at home in the North London derby this weekend, 0-1. That was a very tough defeat for the Blues, who lost the swing following Potter’s arrival at Stamford.
Six of the last ten road games Blues played on the road were with two or three goals, which is a moderate efficiency, and before the failure in Brighton, they had five in a row without a loss.
Newcastle United: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; S Longstaff, Guimaraes, Willock; Almiron, C Wilson, Saint-Maximin
Chelsea: Mendy; Chalobah, Silva, Koulibaly; Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Kovacic, Cucurella; Mount; Aubameyang, Sterling
The Blues won the past four encounters, and the results last year were 0-3 in Newcastle and 1-0 in London. In all four wins, we saw Chelsea keeping its net intact.
The Magpies are in one hell of a shape, and they play solid football. Also, they don’t have as many players playing at the World Cup as Chelsea, which is a big deal for us, because most of them will play a low-intensity game to avoid picking up an injury this late. So we pick Newcastle to win here.
Our Verdict: Newcastle wins
