Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Newcastle vs. Manchester City at EFL
After only a few weeks, Newcastle and Manchester City meet again. The first clash was in the English Premier League, and the champs had more success. The Magpies now want revenge, but that will be a challenging task, regardless of the fact they have the home-field edge. According to the odds, City is the favorite, but not as high as many would think.
Newcastle
The Magpies played their first meeting in the UEFA Champions League in Milan seven days ago, and are now entering a competitive rhythm that will see them play three games in seven days. It will be a huge test for the rotation and Eddie Howe himself.
Newcastle lost three games in a row during late August and early September, which was their down phase that started against City. There’s still plenty of glitches on the field, and for the moment, the offense underachieves.
Apart from trashing Aston Villa in the opening round, 5-1, we practically haven’t seen anything from the Magpies’ forwards. They have to step up and start delivering otherwise, their team might be in problems.
Manchester City
Haaland is on fire, and yet he isn’t using 50% of his big chances. Overall, the Citizens’ finishing is poor, and we’ve seen that in the UEFA Champions League once they defeated Red Star, 3-1, shooting 37 times towards the rivals’ goal.
Still, they are the leading force in England and the top favorite for defending the title. The same goes for the UEFA Champions League as well.
Several players are injured, among them the captain De Bruyne, but that doesn’t concern Guardiola, who has plenty of replacements available. Doku, who arrived before the end of the transfer window, has been excellent so far, and as time goes by, the Belgian will be even better.
Newcastle United: Pope; Trippier, Botman, Burn, Targett; Anderson, Longstaff, Tonali; Almiron, Isak, Murphy
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Ake, Lewis, Gvardiol; Phillips, Nunes; Bobb, Foden, Doku; Alvarez
City hosted Newcastle in the second round, winning 1-0, with Julian Alvarez netting the game’s only goal in the 31st minute. In eight of the past nine events, City won, and they didn’t lose in 10 straight against the Magpies.
Both head coaches will probably change something in their tactics and leave some players on the bench, but their mission will be to win. The Magpies are tough at home, while City won’t attack and open right away, and that’s why we don’t expect to see goals. Our prediction here is under 2.5 hits.
Our verdict: Under 2.5 goals
