Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua for Heavyweight
Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua meet again almost one year after their previous battle. Back then, the Ukrainian boxer dethroned Joshua, stripping him of his four heavyweight belts, and becoming one of few undisputed cruiserweight champions who would win the heavyweight title after conquering their division. Meanwhile, Joshua wants to get back his titles, which would start his third championship reign, making him one of the best in history.
Oleksandr Usyk
The Ukrainian is one of the most complete fighters in the last two or three decades. He has everything one great champion needs: boxing IQ, speed, strength, power, and creativity. And as time goes by, he constantly develops as a fighter. His record is perfect, with 19 wins in the same number of appearances.
Usyk was the undisputed cruiserweight champion before deciding to test himself in the heavyweight division. The way the Ukrainian dominated in that group was simply magnificent.
His first opponent in the heavyweight was Chaz Witherspoon, who called it a quit after seven rounds, and the very next battle was for the belt, the WBO Inter-Continental, against Derek Chisora. Usyk outclassed him, winning by a unanimous decision, and then proceeded to meet Joshua.
Anthony Joshua
AJ has experienced this situation following a loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. He came back stronger and better, erasing all of his mistakes from the first meeting and demolishing the rival. That event was also in Saudi Arabia, so AJ knows his way around here and is accustomed to the circumstances.
Joshua is one of the most dominant heavyweights in terms of athleticism, and there aren’t many fighters throughout history who have such impressive physics. Though, we saw that Usyk neutralized all that in the first bout.
The big thing about Joshua is that he continuously learns and keeps improving and certainly made adjustments after losing last September. Long reach and tremendous power are the two biggest weapons for this guy, who has knocked out 22 of his rivals so far.
The first fight was at the Tottenham Stadium in London in September 2021. Usyk immediately took control and started bombing the rival shaking AJ in the third round. We’ve seen the same in a few situations until the end, and the Ukrainian was close to knocking the rival in the closing moments, but the bell saved the Brit.
Usyk’s focus might not be fully on preparations for this event due to the situation in Ukraine, but we still believe that he has e massive edge over Joshua. Usyk is a tough guy, and even though he doesn’t have the size like AJ, his punches are equally devastating and much, much faster. Also, we’ve seen that Usyk adapts to changes during the fight quickly, and all this is why we back up his win.
Our verdict: Usyk Wins
