Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Peru vs. Chile at Copa America 2024
Peru and Chile are two great enigmas before this Copa America. Why? Well, they haven’t been doing well lately, particularly in the World Cup qualifiers, meaning the pressure on both teams is high. Are they going to break under the same or step up? Will their results improve or not? Many questions revolve around them.
Peru
The good news for Peru is that they haven’t lost in the previous four meetings. Two ties and wins apiece definitely boosted the unit’s morale, even though the rivals weren’t some top-caliber names.
Those victories were against Nicaragua, 2-0, and Peru, 4-1, while draws were against Venezuela, 1-1, and Paraguay, 0-0. The downside was that all four meetings took place in Lima, and we aren’t sure how Peru plays away from home.
Overall, only one of the last nine matches saw over 2.5 goals, meaning Peru’s games are inefficient. Seven games throughout this stretch concluded with only one side netting.
Chile
La Roja has only one win in six World Cup qualifier games, and that’s terrible. They lost three times and tied twice. A very disturbing thing is that Chile couldn’t net in four of those matches.
Scoring improved slightly during the recent friendly international meetings because Chile delivered eight goals during 270 minutes. They were better than Albania, 0-3, then lost narrowly to France, 3-2, before closing the test period with a huge 3-0 victory over Paraguay.
La Roja is an old team with players who are way past their peak yet have notable names like Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez, or Claudio Bravo. We can’t underestimate them, but we also don’t believe in them too much.
Peru: Gallese; Araujo, Zambrano, Callens; Polo, W Catagena, Tapia, Lopez; Lapadula, Guerrero, Rivera
Chile: Bravo; Isla, Diaz, Lichnovsky, Suazo; Echeverria, Nunez; Osorio, Alexis, Davila; Vargas
Peru and Chile played for the last time in October 2023. It was the World Cup qualifiers, with La Roja hosting the game and winning 2-0. The past six meetings all had 2 or 3 goals, while the last five ended with just one side netting.
Both teams are very conservative regarding competitive matches, and despite Chile’s solid performances in the test period, we don’t expect to see too many goals. The stakes are high, and when two South American teams compete in such circumstances, under 2.5 goals are the best pick.
Our verdict: Under 2.5 goals
