Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Portugal vs. Ghana | Group Stage, World Cup Qatar 2022
Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo take off against Ghana this Thursday afternoon in what seems to be a promising match for all football fans. This is the last chance for Cristiano to win the title, and even though he is a phenomenon, we don’t believe he can play at this level for four more years. On the other side is Ghana, who comes to Qatar eager to make a surprise and reach the knockout stage.
Portugal
The atmosphere in Portugal is a bit shady, due to Ronaldo’s interview in which he went against Manchester United. His teammates aren’t very happy to see this happening before the start of the World Cup, so the rumors appeared that the locker room isn’t too keen on having Cristiano in it.
Though, we all know that CR7 is still one of the best players in the world and that his presence on the field is an absolute must for Selecao. Portugal played solid football in the past 10 games, winning six events, losing three, and posting one draw.
For the moment, their last six clashes saw only one side netting, and during that stretch, the Portuguese defense kept its net intact on four occasions. They have world-class players in all lines and are one of the dark horses for winning the world title.
Ghana
The Black Stars were near the semis back in 2010, when Uruguay stopped them in the quarterfinals. It was a controversial game, especially due to Luis Suarez’s handball that prevented a clear goal. Still, the Ghanaian team has the opportunity to get even with the South Americans who are in their group as well.
The team Otto Addo has is very interesting, with a variety of guys who are good role players but, to be honest, without a classic playmaker.
Like Portugal, the majority of their matches also ended up with just one side netting, to be exact, eight in the past 10. Ghana comes to Qatar with back-to-back wins without a goal allowed, against Nicaragua, 1-0, and Switzerland, 2-0.
Portugal: Patricio; Dalot, Dias, Pereira, Cancelo; Neves, Palhinha, Fernandes; B. Silva, Ronaldo, Leao
Ghana: Ati-Zigi; Amartey, Djiku, Salisu; Lamptey, Partey, Williams, A Baba; J Ayew, Kudus, A Ayew
Portugal and Ghana played at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and Selecao won that game, 2-1. It was a clash in the group, with Ronaldo scoring 10 minutes before the end to bring all three points for his country.
Portugal is the absolute favorite here, but we wouldn’t bet on their win, yet instead, take under 2.5 goals because it seems much safer. We don’t know the actual situation in Portugal’s camp, so it is better just to move past the full-time result and go with low efficiency, as both teams prefer such football.
Our verdict: Under 2.5 goals
