Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Real Madrid vs. Marseille at UEFA Champions League
The biggest football club in the world, Real Madrid, hosts the former UCL champions this Tuesday night. Marseille’s glory days are way past them, but this club still generates quite a buzz. Their fans are among the most loyal in the world and most passionate, which will make this game spectacular.
Real Madrid
The Madridians have many players who were involved in international games during the break. Plus, a very tough trip to San Sebastian, where they met with Real Sociedad, surely took a toll, but there’s no way that can be an excuse for a poor result.
Real played two home games this year, winning both. The first was against Osasuna in the La Liga season opener, 1-0, and the second against Mallorca, whom the Los Blancos beat 2-1. In each of the games we haven’t seen them dominate the field, we have to add that.
Regarding the atmosphere in the locker room, we’ve heard plenty of speculations that Vinicius isn’t happy. Right now, it seems that’s settled. There aren’t any rumors about his departure anymore.
Marseille
The French team started the season rather slowly. Nobody expected them to lose two of the opening three Ligue 1 contests, especially because Marseille didn’t suffer a defeat in 6 preseason events.
Roberto De Zerbi’s unit was beaten in Rennes, 1-0, before trashing the newcomer in the league, Paris FC, 5-2. However, after that, the 1993 UCL champions experienced another failure, this time against Lyon, on the road as well, 1-0.
Away from home, Marseille struggles to find its rhythm, and it helplessly looks for a solution on the offensive end. They play at least 50% weaker than at the Velodrome.
Real Madrid: Courtois; Carvajal, Rudiger, Huijsen, Carreras; Valverde, Tchouameni, Guler; Mastantuono, Mbappe, Vinicius
Marseille: Rulli; Murillo, Balerdi, Aguerd, Garcia; Gomes, Hojbjerg; Greenwood, Gouiri, Weah; Aubameyang
Real and Marseille have met four times since 2000, and in all four games, the team from Madrid has won. The overall goal difference is 12-4 for Los Blancos.
As we saw, the French unit isn’t playing as expected on the road. And its rivals were slightly above-average teams from Ligue 1, which is nowhere near the upcoming challenge. After back-to-back struggles at the Bernabeu in the domestic championship, Real is determined to open the Champions League campaign with a strong performance, thus sending a message to all the other rivals. For us, this is a no-brainer, as we pick Real Madrid to win and cover a 1.5-goal handicap.
Our verdict: Real Madrid -1.5
