Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for South Korea vs. Portugal | Group Stage, World Cup Qatar 2022
This might be one of the iconic games for South Korea and its national football team. They have a chance to progress to the next stage, but in order to do so, a win is needed against Portugal, who is already in the Round of 16. Korea was back against Ghana, erasing a two-goal deficit yet without luck in the finish. As for Portugal, they routinely beat Uruguay, showing that they truly are one of the best teams in the tournament.
South Korea
The Koreans were better than Ghana in the opening phase of their matchup, yet as time went by, their focus and composure became weak, and the African team quickly reached a 0-2 lead.
But a fantastic comeback early on into the second half, indicated that Koreans might perform a complete flip, leaving Ghana without a much-needed win. Though, once again, South Korea allowed a pretty chap goal, which could cost them a lot in the end.
After three contests in which this crew didn’t allow a goal, vs. Cameroon, Iceland (friendly), and Uruguay (World Cup), the Korean defense was hurt on three occasions. Whether that was due to the pressure or something else, we don’t quite know, but this drop came at the worst possible moment.
Portugal
Bruno Fernandes stole a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo, yet we are sure that the best player in the Portuguese team doesn’t mind too much. Two wins in two games are Portugal’s saldo, and it couldn’t be better for the former EURO champions.
It’s evident that Portugal’s form is going up, and the team now has three wins in a row. In all of them, Ronaldo and the boys scored at least two goals, and when looking back further into the past, we see that Portugal won in seven of the previous 10 contests, in all netting at least twice.
They are an extremely experienced team, with lots of superstars, and what is more important, they play together for a long time.
South Korea: Kim Seung-gyu; Kim Moon-hwan, Kim Young-gwon, Kim Min-jae, Kim Jin-su; Jung Woo-Young, Hwang In-beom, Lee Jae-sung; Hwang Hee-chan, Son Heung-min, Hwang Ui-jo
Portugal: Costa; Cancelo, Pepe, Dalot, Guerreiro; Neves, Carvalho, Joao Mario; B. Silva, A. Silva, Leao
In 2002, South Korea was the host of the World Cup with Japan, and they beat Portugal in the group stage, 1-0, winning the top spot in that assembly while eliminating Selecao from the tournament.
Portugal will make several switches in the lineup, as several of their players have yellow cards, most notably Bruno Fernandes. Besides him, Felix and Dias also have the same problem. That’s why we expect to see a more casual approach from Portugal, which could open a chance for a high-scoring matchup. We go with over 2.5 goals.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
