Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Switzerland vs. Italy at EURO 2024
The Swiss team is a surprise for many, but for us, it’s not. Why? Well, they’ve been constantly at the top of European and world football for quite a while. We constantly remind everyone to think about that and see their recent history. The Italians had luck, eliminating Croatia in the final seconds of their contest. But then again, Azzurri always seemed to have luck, and seeing them in such situations had already become normal.
Switzerland
Over the previous 15 years, the Swiss side participated in every big tournament, and apart from that, they almost always advanced to the knockout stage. That’s a sign of quality.
Another sign of quality is a win over Hungary, a tie against Scotland, and a performance versus Germany in the last event of the group stage. We have to say that they looked better and more compact on the field than the hosts, and that’s something worthy of respect.
The last four meetings the Swiss unit had were all with both teams netting. Though, three were with under 2.5 hits, and in the last ten contests, eight saw fewer than three goals.
Italy
Riccardo Calafiori’s run and assist and Mattia Zaccagni’s perfect hit were the best play from Italy during the entire EURO. And it earned them the second spot in the group and the place in the Round of 16.
After coming back and winning against Albania, 2-1, a disastrous performance, and a minimal loss to Spain, 1-0, everything came down to the game against Croatia. It wasn’t that good for Italy throughout the event because they again fell behind, yet the fighting mentality helped Azzurri progress to the knockout round.
Italy’s defense is problematic, allowing at least a goal in all three appearances here in Germany. In fact, that’s something regular for this unit over the past two years.
Switzerland: Sommer; Schar, Akanji, Rodriguez; Rieder, Xhaka, Freuler, Aebischer; Shaqiri, Vargas; Ndoye
Italy: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bastoni, Mancini, Darmian; Cristante, Barella; Chiesa, Pellegrini, Zaccagni; Scamacca
The two sides met in the World Cup qualifiers in 2021, with both games finishing with a tie, 0-0 in Switzerland and 1-1 in Italy. It eventually cost the Azzurri a place in Qatar. In the previous EURO, they were in the group stage, and the Italians defeated the Swiss 3-0.
This will be a tough battle, but we expect to see goals. Both teams have certain problems in defense, while on the other side, the respective attacks are pretty solid. Even though it might seem risky, we will take both teams netting here.
Our verdict: Both teams scoring
