Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for the Alexander Volkanovski vs the Korean Zombie match.
The battle for the UFC featherweight title in the men’s competition between Alexander Volkanovski and the Korean Zombie takes place at the UFC 273. This fight is the main event of the evening, and it should be a spectacular one. Both guys are very experienced fighters who are probably at the peak of their respective careers. Yet many think that the Korean Zombie didn’t deserve the chance to meet the Aussie, the organization thought otherwise.
Volkanovski
The Australian champion has only one loss in his 24 appearances in the ring, with 11 of those triumphs coming via KO, nine by the decision. He defeated the four previous rivals via decision, and may we say that he is one of the most unconvincing champions in the UFC. The rematch with Max Holloway, where he kept the title after a split decision, was highly controversial, and we don’t believe that he won that one.
Volkanovski’s most recent bout was at the UFC 266, when he beat Brian Ortega, defending the title for the second time. His game plan is known to everyone, and he rarely changes anything. Despite being more or less predictable, the Aussie is still without a defeat in the UFC.
He uses his leg kicks to destabilize the rival and to keep the distance, implementing a lot of Muay Thai striking in his performances. Lately, he’s been using Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and may we add that he improved a lot in that area, extending his arsenal of weapons to the ground apart from being an excellent striker and a dirty boxer.
Korean Zombie
The 34-year old is a veteran here and one of the most exciting fighters to watch, with plenty of bonuses earned for either fight or the performance of the night. Though he wasn’t considered a title challenger at this particular moment, it appears that the UFC wanted to honor his career with one last chance for taking the belt.
After losing to Brian Ortega in October 2020, Jung Chang Sung which is his real name fought Dan Ige and beat him via unanimous decision last June. He didn’t post some long winning streaks in recent years, and he often had subsequent wins and losses.
The Korean Zombie is one hell of a puncher, and his offensive output is massive. Once he gets into the rhythm, there is no way for the opponents to avoid hard damage and at least a couple of highlight-reel punches. But while doing so, he usually overexposes himself and leaves plenty of room for counter-attacks.
Unlike the champion, the Korean Zombie is a bit more reckless, which is why we give the edge in this fight to Volkanovski. The champion might not be attractive or flashy like his rival, but he perfectly knows how to behave in each situation and what to do in the octagon, and we predict his victory.
Our verdict: Volkanovski Wins
