The flyweight bout between Kai Kara-France and Amir Albazi is the main fight in this week’s UFC on ESPN 46 event. These two guys are among the top ten guys in the division and want to be in the mix for becoming the title challengers at some point. Kara-France was in that position but couldn’t go all the way, while the Iraqui fighter steps on the big scene for the first time.

Kara-France

The fighter from New Zealand participated in a bout for the interim UFC flyweight title against Brandon Moreno last July. He was knocked out in the third round and lost all chances to fight for the status of undisputed champion.

Previously, he had three very confident performances, beating Rogerio Bontorin and Cody Garbrandt via first-round TKO and Askar Askarov, whom he defeated via unanimous decision. Even though he has 30 years, Kara-France already has 35 matches in his professional MMA career.

Kara-France is a very powerful striker, and 11 of his 24 victories came via knockout. His cardio is also at a high level, and we often saw him going to distance and winning. A very problematic aspect of his fight is wrestling, and even though he tried to improve it over time, that simply didn’t happen.

Albazi

The Iraqi is nicknamed the Prince. So far, he had 17 bouts in his career and just one loss throughout that time. However, he is perfect in the UFC following four fights, winning three of them via stoppage and looking highly impressive.

Albazi is the guy who looks relentless inside the octagon, very well-rounded, with a few weapons in each area. Even though he has mighty punching power, and many tend to think that he solves all his problems in the same, Albazi is, in fact, an outstanding wrestler.

His power on the ground is magnificent, and not many of the fans noticed that nine of 16 wins he has came after a submission. Two of Albazi’s UFC victories were like that against Malcolm Gordon and Francisco Figueiredo. The one against Zhalgas Zhumagulov was a unanimous decision victory, and the most recently was a knockout against Alessandro Costa.

Kara-France was in good shape until he ran into Moreno, the reigning champion of this category. We haven’t seen him in the octagon for more than a year, meaning he probably took time to care for his body and mind. Albazi is on the rise, but his experience in situations like these is close to zero. That’s why we pick Kara-France to win this event. We know the Kiwi was tested numerous times, but that can’t be said for Albazi.
