Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for UFC on ESPN: Strickland vs. Magomedov
Sean Strickland and Abus Magomedov highlight this weekend’s UFC event in Las Vegas as they clash in the main fight of the night. Strickland is a guy who is near the division’s elite, for some, is among the top five fighters, while on the other side, Magomedov comes in as the new dog on the block, the one who wants to take over the entire neighborhood. He is fresh in the UFC, but has tremendous potential.
Sean Strickland
The Tarzan was in the mix to become the middleweight challenger, but his losses to Alex Pereira and Jared Cannonier denied him that opportunity. He was KOd against Poatan, in the first round, following a vicious hit by the Brazilian, while the loss to Cannonier came via a controversial split decision.
After these two events, Strickland returned with a unanimous decision triumph over Nassourdine Imavov, and is now full of confidence before another run at the top of the division.
The American is a very good boxer, one of the best in the division. Lately, he’s been trying to improve his wrestling skills, and it seems that he managed to improve it a little bit. Stickland holds wins over Jack Hermansson, Uriah Hall, Brendan Allen, Krzysztof Jotko etc.
Abus Magomedov
The Dagestani-born fighting out of Germany had a flying debut in the UFC, beating Dustin Stoltzfus via knockout after only 20 seconds in the octagon. That happened in September last year, at the UFC Paris Gane vs. Tuivasa, which was his first battle following 2020.
Magomedov is a flashy fighter who won 25 of his 29 fights, 14 via KO, six after submission, and five via decision. He isn’t like most of the fighters coming out of Dagestan, and he often uses his punching power to finish the rivals, instead of wrestling.
He doesn’t have the needed experience, but his advantage might be that he isn’t that well-scouted, because Magomedov entered the ring only once since late 2020. He had one big fight in his life, which was the PFL 2018 finals against Louis Taylor, who KOd him in the first round.
This should be an entertaining battle between two guys with similar approaches in the octagon. Though, we need to add that Strickland’s chin and his cardio are tested in the UFC, while Magomedov’s aren’t. That’s why we give the edge to Tarzan, who fought plenty of battles like these and has the needed skills and experience to beat the rival.
Our verdict: Strickland wins
