Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Arsenal vs. Coventry City at English Premier League
On This Page
The champion opens the new EPL season against the newcomer. That’s how we can describe the clash between Arsenal and Coventry. There’s no need to explain who the favorite is in this one. Arsenal is the biggest contender to take the title once more, while the guests stand as the top candidates for relegation.

Arsenal
Mikel Arteta and the Gunners are the English champions. That’s pretty much everything one has to know about this unit. They deserved to take the title last year, and reaching the UCL finals proves that.
Now let’s be realistic, Arsenal played badly during the preseason. But on the other hand, they don’t have to make any statements anymore, just keep themselves healthy for the start of the season.
This team has good chemistry; the roster is intact, only upgraded with a few names. Therefore, losses to Dortmund and Betis, or a tie against Como, can’t be a measure of their strength or form.
Coventry City
Coventry returns to the Premier League for the first time since the 2000/01 season after dominating the Championship. This is a historic achievement for the Sky Blues, who had a very good last season.
Frank Lampard is in charge of this unit. The former Chelsea legend managed to build a solid team, which relies upon discipline in central midfield and swift transitions.
There isn’t too much flair in Coventry’s game. They will be a hard-working, defensive-minded unit on the road, trying to protect their own goal first and attack after. Simply, the Sky Blues don’t have the quality to play an open game against most EPL teams.
Arsenal: Raya; White, Mosquera, Gabriel, Calafiori; Guimaraes, Lewis-Skelly; Dowman, Odegaard, Saka; Havertz
Coventry City: Wilson; van Ewijk, Thomas, Perry, Bidwell; Torp, Grimes; Tchaouna, Eccles, Mason-Clark; Simms
The most recent competitive encounter came in the FA Cup Fourth Round in January 2014, where Arsenal earned a comfortable 4–0 win at the Emirates Stadium. Before that, they met in the EFL, where Arsenal beat Coventry 6-1 in 2012.
Arsenal is way better here, and we expect to see that right away. With all due respect to Coventry, the Gunners are among the best teams in Europe, and one of their biggest strengths is their home form. Therefore, we predict an easy and comfortable win for the champions, who will cover a 1.5-goal handicap. Arsenal didn’t post good results in the preseason, yet that’s because they didn’t have all their players at their disposal. It will be different for this event, because all those who played at the World Cup are ready to roll.
Our verdict: Arsenal -1.5
