Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Espanyol vs. Real Madrid at La Liga
On This Page
The early action in La Liga brings an interesting clash to Catalonia, with RCD Espanyol hosting Real Madrid at the RCDE Stadium. Real Madrid’s opening fixture was delayed due to scheduling adjustments, so they start the campaign in Gameweek 2. The main question is whether Jose Mourinho and the overhauled Los Blancos have the power to dethrone Barca.

Espanyol
The team from Barcelona secured its La Liga status in May last year, having endured a winless streak of more than 4 months beforehand. It was a traumatic experience for all Espanyol fans, who saw their team go 18 matches without a triumph.
Now, we haven’t seen this unit have an active transfer window, and there are plenty of concerns among their supporters about the squad’s quality.
Their preseason preparations have brought mostly negative results, with the team posting three ties and a loss up until the moment of writing this article. In all the matches we saw both teams netting, while three brought over 3.5 goals, and Espanyol allowing at least two hits.
Real Madrid
Unlike Espanyol, it was very turbulent at Bernabeu. At first there were presidential elections, and in the meantime, the team landed some major names. Florentino Perez brought back Jose Mourinho, and after that landed some pretty big names.
Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, and lastly, Yan Diomande all became Real’s players. In between, the Vinicius saga ended with the Brazilian extending his contract and firmly binding his future to Real’s.
Real’s preseason games brought goals, usually on both ends of the field. This team now has an incredible offensive ceiling, with Mbappe, Vinicius, and Diomande; though, we’ll see how all three work together.
Espanyol: Dmitrović; El Hilali, Riedel, Rubio, Hartman; Zarate, Expósito, Calatrava; Dolan, Véliz, Fernandez
Real Madrid: Courtois; Dumfries, Konaté, Rüdiger, Cucurella; Valverde, Tchouaméni, Bellingham; Diomande, Mbappé, Vinícius
Last year, Real played two routine matches against Espanyol, winning both 2-0. In the previous 10 meetings, we saw Los Blancos beat the team from Barcelona on 8 occasions, while two events ended with under 2.5 goals.
We don’t need to explain why we bet on Real’s win here. Los Blancos are a far better team, and not just that, but we really think that Espanyol’s current roster isn’t competitive for La Liga. It lacks creative players; plus, the defense is very limited and fragile, and we are more than positive to see Real exploiting all that. Los Blancos need a strong and decisive start to the season, so Mourinho won’t calculate anything.
Our verdict: Real Madrid wins & Over 2.5 goals
