Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Barcelona vs. Real Madrid at Copa del Rey
The last El Clasico this year is Wednesday’s one in Copa del Rey at Camp Nou, where Barca hosts Real Madrid. Blaugrana has a 1-0 edge after the opening 90 minutes in Madrid and hopes to keep it. It would be a giant step toward the double crown because the Catalan unit also has a nice advantage over rivals in the La Liga race. For Real, this is one of the crucial games of the year, especially following a recent loss in the league contest against El Clasico.
Barcelona
Xavi’s work turned out to be fantastic and Barcelona really looks mighty this year. Even though Blaugrana failed to deliver a noticeable result on the international stage, their fans are more than satisfied with how this campaign developed.
It seems that Xavis’ focus was only on La Liga and winning the title in Spain, and we got the impression that his players weren’t that motivated and focused once playing in different competitions. Right now, the hosts have several consecutive victories, and the majority of them were with clean sheets.
Barca didn’t lose at home since October this year and the clash against Bayern Munich. After that, we’ve seen them posting seven victories and two draws.
Real Madrid
Real was visibly slower over the past month than before. The fatigue seems to have caught up with Ancelotti’s crew, as many of them had a rough World Cup campaign. Los Blancos lost to Barca in the final round before the international break.
What makes that defeat extremely painful is that the champs had a lead 0-1. Unfortunately for them, Barca came back, and with three points, more or less secured the La Liga title.
That’s what gives the Madridians a massive motive ahead of this encounter. Though, we can’t say Real comes in flying high, due to their mixed results on the road. Over the recent four away events, Los Blancos won only once, having one draw and two losses.
Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Kounde, Araujo, Christensen, Balde; F de Jong, Busquets, Kessie; Raphinha, Lewandowski, Gavi
Real Madrid: Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Alaba; Kroos, Camavinga, Modric; Valverde, Benzema, Vinicius
As said, this is the fifth El Clasico this year, with Barcelona having a better record up until this point. Blaugrana won in the last three – the Super Cup finals, Copa del Rey first leg and La Liga. Real triumphed in the first La Liga meeting of the year at Bernabeu, 3-1.
Three of four contests had both teams netting and at least three hits.
This should be a game with lots of action, because Real needs to be aggressive right from the start. Our pick here would be over 2.5 scores, due to the previous direct meetings and the guests’ need to catch up with the deficit.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
