Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Chelsea vs. Manchester City at English Premier League
Chelsea’s problems continue. Since the UK government forced Roman Abramovich to sell the club, the Blues are wandering and making all sorts of illogical moves. This summer was no different, so the fans aren’t thrilled ahead of the new season, particularly with the champions and big rivals, Manchester City, coming to town. The Citizens won the Community Shield against United last Saturday and are steaming on confidence. Plus, they are aware of Chelsea’s problems and want to utilize them in the best possible way.
Chelsea
Just one win in six preseason games deeply disturbs every Chelsea fan, particularly the 4-2 loss to shorthanded City during the US tour. The most recent meeting this team played was at home against the Italian champs, Inter Milan, which was supposed to be the final test ahead of the new Premiership campaign.
That one ended without winners, 1-1, making it the fifth of six this summer where Chelsea conceded. The sole one in which they hadn’t, was against Club America, 3-0. Chelsea’s defense has been mediocre these days, and that’s why the game vs. City comes at the worst possible moment.
Enzo Maresca didn’t create any chemistry, and his system of play proved to be inefficient. We’ve stated this already, but there’s not too much time for the Italian manager, and right now, he’s under pressure even though the season has yet to start.
Manchester City
City erased all its shaky and pale preseason performances with a win over Manchester United in the Community Shield last weekend. It was 1-1 after 90 minutes, but City’s players were more focused during the penalty shootout, landing another trophy at Etihad.
City was cheering up the fans on the US tour, delivering extremely high-scoring affairs, playing four events that saw at least five goals on both ends of the field. The first three ended with them losing to Celtics, 4-3, AC Milan, 2-3, and Barca, 2-2 (lost on penalties).
Guardiola’s unit would beat Chelsea, 4-2, before winning the Community Shield, perfectly raising the form ahead of the season kick-off.
Chelsea: Jorgensen; Gusto, Colwill, Badiashile, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Sterling; Nkunku
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic; Bernardo, De Bruyne, Foden; Haaland
There was a friendly on August 3 in the USA, when City won 4-2. Last season, the two units met three times, twice in the EPL, 4-4 at Stamford and 1-1 at the Etihad, and in the FA Cup semis, where City won 1-0 at Wembley.
Our pick here is City because of all Chelsea’s current problems. At this moment, the champions look like a healthier and better unit, plus they’ve defeated the rivals more than three weeks ago.
Our verdict: Manchester City wins
