Karen Khachanov and Stefanos Tsitsipas square off in the Australian Open semifinals. These two guys are in their prime years and are expected to be among those who will take over the reign once the Big Three retires. Khachanov will play its second straight semis, following the one in New York, while Tsitsipas looks to reach his first finals in Australia in four attempts. Everything will be pretty tense in this battle, not only because of the stake but due to the temperament and the respective personalities of these two guys.

Karen Khachanov vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas Preview

Karen Khachanov

Karen Khachanov eliminated Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals, with his rival retiring in the third set, due to an injury. The Russian was already far ahead, one step into the next phase, with a 2-0 lead in sets and 3-0 in the third sequence. He was all over the American who couldn’t find his groove, especially following the loss in the opening set, which saw the tiebreak.

The Russian won 80% of his first serve and saved two of three break points. He had 12 aces without a single double fault committed, which was excellent. Also, he won four of ten break points, and almost 40% of the points on Korda’s first serve.

So far, he has had a solid path towards the semis, with Zapata Miralles in the first round, Kubler, Tiafoe, and Nishioka after that, handing the rivals only two sets.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

The Greek continued his winning streak, and so far this year, he hadn’t lost a match. His growth in the last 12 months is noticeable, but we still didn’t see him winning a Grand Slam. This is Stefanos’ fourth semifinals here, and he already went to the Roland Garros finals in 2021 but lost to Novak there, dropping a two-set lead.

Lehecka gave him some trouble, but overall, Tsitsipas was always one step ahead of the Czech player. That’s why he won 3-0, holding his serve well and having a fantastic first serve, which kept the distance between him and the rival.

He was better than Halys in the opening round, and after that, Hijikata, Griekspoor, and Jannick Sinner. This draw wasn’t too tough for him, but on the other hand, he dropped just two sets, which were against Sinner.

Karen Khachanov vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction

Right now, Tsistipas looks better. He has been in Australia for a long time (more than three weeks), with him already coming to the Australian Open with a superb winning streak, which now extends to 12 events. Khachanov will take a set here, but that will be his maximum because Tsitsipas really looks powerful right now.
