Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Manchester City vs. Liverpool at EPL
This is the clash between the last two EPL champions, only, the game we are about to cover is a part of the English Football League Cup, and the current stage is Round of 16. The Citizens are big favorites here, but the Reds beat Guardiola’s unit in their most recent encounter. This matchup has a high significance for the Reds, whose entire season is in jeopardy, and a win here would be of massive importance for various reasons.
Manchester City
Pep Guardiola and his Citizens want to win everything this year, and for sure, this game is of extreme importance to the Spanish manager. He won’t mix the lineup but will go with the strongest possible team because his team is pretty much complete.
Man City’s top player and the most important link, Erling Haaland, wasn’t at the World Cup at all, which is a big plus for the Citizens, as the Norwegian used these last couple of weeks to clear all of the injuries and further adapt to Guardiola’s variations and demands.
City was fantastic at home during this campaign. Guardiola’s guys won 13 of the past 14 games, losing the most recent one, to Brentford, before heading to the World Cup break.
Liverpool
We need to figure out what to think about Liverpool. It is the third of the EPL season, and they are more or less out of the title race. The Reds are beating Manchester City, but losing to Nottingham Forest. The back line is one day fantastic and the other like it had four amateurs in it.
It is no wonder to see Liverpool allowing at least a goal in seven of the past nine road games. Also, it is not strange that the Reds posted just three victories away from Anfield during that span, one in the Premiership.
Klopp did wake up the team before the World Cup, but still, that wasn’t Liverpool we used to see in the past. Darwin Nunez was below expectations, the injuries have shredded the Reds’ roster, and even when German had the entire crew at his disposal, Liverpool’s chemistry was non-existent.
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Diaz, Cancelo; Phillips, Rodri, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Haaland, Silva
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson; Elliott, Thiago, Keita; Salah, Firmino, Nunez
The past three games saw Liverpool beat Manchester City, and the latest was in October this year in the Premier League. It was a 1-0 win for the Reds at Anfield in the middle of their crisis. Each time these two sides meet, we see goals, and eight of the past ten were with over 2.5 goals.
We are in for the goals here, even though City is a huge favorite. It is much safer to bet on the high efficiency because Liverpool played well during the pause, with Firmino, Salah, and the rest of the players displaying solid performances. Over 2.5 scores is our pick here.
Our verdict: Over 2.5 goals
