Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Netherlands vs. USA | Group Stage, World Cup Qatar 2022
Oranje will have one nasty rival in the Round of 16 as they face the United States of America. The Dutch unit won first place in Group A, while the USA ended second in Group B. Both teams finished without losses, and the only difference is that the Netherlands had one win more. We need to say that both groups weren’t impressive when it comes to their strength, but still, not losing a game deserves respect.
Netherlands
Oranje was confident in their assembly, beating Senegal 2-0, then playing against Ecuador 1-1, and defeating Qatar in the last round, also 2-0. Louis Van Gaal’s unit was routine, and it seemed as if they played with 70% of their power.
Cody Gakpo is on fire, with the young PSV forward having been the best player of the World Cup so far, and that’s a fact. He has three goals, netting in each event, pretty much being the motor of the Dutch unit. He can play as a striker, winger, or offensive midfielder, it’s not a problem.
The Netherlands as a unit plays offensive, and that’s been their trademark for a long time, as well as Van Gaal’s. They want to attack and have the ball, and when they don’t have it, pressing is pretty high and aggressive.
USA
Gregg Berhalter has a very young team in his hands, and he is still trying to blend everyone into one solid entity. The youth and inexperience are against him, but the talent and the potential are on the US side.
The Americans played 1-1 against Wales in the opening round, without goals against England, before beating Iran in the final event, 1-0, in a game they had to win. Despite all the pressure on and off the court, this team met the expectations, passing the first of many tests.
The US team is very solid in the midfield, with lots of players who are running for 90 minutes. We can say that the offense is average, or even below average, while the defense showed solid quality.
Netherlands: Noppert; De Ligt, Van Dijk, Ake; Dumfries, Berghuis, F de Jong, Blind; Gakpo; Bergwijn, Memphis
USA: Turner; Dest, Zimmerman, Ream, Robinson; Adams, Musah, McKennie; Pulisic, Weah, Wright
The Netherlands and the USA never met at the World Cup, and their most recent meeting was a friendly in 2015, once the Americans beat the rivals, 4-3, netting twice in the last two minutes of the event.
Our money here is on the Netherlands. They faced two teams who played similarly to the US side (Ecuador and Senegal), beating both, while on the other hand, the Americans didn’t have a chance to feel what it is like to be bullied and attacked throughout all 90 minutes. The Netherlands’ attack will break the American defense, which will be the difference-maker here.
Our verdict: Netherlands Wins
